CARSCOOPS STAFF wrote:The new Ford GT has certainly managed to capture our attention, but we've been lacking certain key figures. Fortunately the Blue Oval automaker has now released the supercar's full specifications, and they certainly look impressive.

For starters, while Ford has promised the new GT would deliver over 600 horsepower, it has now confirmed final output figures at 647 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque.

With that much muscle on tap and just 3,054 pounds (dry) to motivate, Ford says the new supercar will top out at 216 mph. Unfortunately it has not released other key performance metrics such as its 0-60 or 1/4-mile time, but it has given us something arguably more relevant to chew on.

While undergoing development last year, Ford took the new GT to Calabogie Motorsports Park – a four-hour drive (towards Ottawa and Montreal) from the Multimatic facility in Markham, Ontario, where the supercar is being assembled. And the team also brought along a McLaren 675LT and Ferrari 458 Speciale for comparison, reporting to have prepared them all with fresh rubber, optimal suspension settings, and with the fluids topped up – and lapped them all under identical conditions and with the same driver behind the wheel. And the Ford beat them both.

Where the McLaren posted a time of 2:10.8 and the Ferrari a 2:12.9, the Ford hustled around the track in 2:09.8. That's pretty impressive, even if it's the newer, more powerful 488 GTB that Ford cites as the GT's main rival (alongside the long-tail McLaren).

Though the Ford bests the Speciale in terms of output, it falls short of the 488 in both metrics, and splits the difference between the McLaren's figures. Those figures, however, are achieved with a smaller engine that's down a few hundred CC and a couple of cylinders on its rivals (yet somehow delivers poorer fuel economy). It's also worth noting that, as irrelevant as it might be to most of its customers, Ford is charging considerably more for the GT: $400k+ is substantially more than the $250k 488, $300k Speciale, and $350k 675.

Check out the full technical specifications released to date, if you're so inclined, which we've posted below for the pleasure of your geeking out.

CRISTIAN GNATICOV wrote:Ford Details All Five Drive Modes Of The GT Supercar
Optimizing the all-new Ford GT's performance characteristics to match road or track conditions can be done at the touch of a button through a selection of different drive modes.

With the 'Normal' mode selected, the supercar's ground clearance is set to 120 mm (4.7 in), which helps it go over speed bumps, potholes and driveway inclines.

Moreover, this setting also softens the suspension and calibrates the throttle and transmission for standard driving. At 145 km/h (90 mph), the rear wing deploys automatically and is stowed back at 130 km/h (81 mph), and it also pops up as an airbrake if the sensors detect aggressive braking.

In 'Wet' mode, the Ford GT gets all of the default configurations of the 'Normal' mode, but adjusts the throttle sensitivity to improve grip on rain-affected surfaces.

Activating the 'Sport' mode results in a sharper throttle response from the 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 engine and anti-lag system. Moreover, drivers can manually adjust the stability and traction control settings using the AdvanceTrac system, but ground clearance remains at 120 mm.

Optimized for strict race conditions, the 'Track' mode automatically drops the ride height by 50 mm (1.97 in), increases the spring rates and adjusts damping to the firmest setting. The front aerodynamic openings close for increased downforce and the rear wing deploys. These settings take less than 2 seconds to kick in.

Last, but definitely not least, is the 'V-Max' mode (maximum velocity), which tunes every setting to allow the supercar to go as fast as possible. The ride height remains the same as in 'Track' mode, but all aero elements are stowed to minimize drag, and stability controls remain active to ensure fast straight-line acceleration.

So Ford basically built a racing car and made it just road legal enough. Clever move. Maserati did the same with the MC12.
It surprised me that the power had to be reduced to around 500HP in race trim. You normally expect a race car to deliver more power than the road car. In this case they drop 150HP to match performance of other competitors, lol.

Quite a machine. Too bad they do not build them in unlimited numbers, as now a lot will go into collectors garages or to greedy resellers.

I do miss the V8 sound though... ;)
