Michael Gauthier wrote:Rimac has announced plans to unveil the production version of the Concept_One at the Geneva Motor Show.

Looking virtually identical to the concept that debuted at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, the production model has a slender grille, a bulging hood, and a rakish windscreen. The car also features a carbon fiber rear diffuser, distinctive taillights, and 20-inch lightweight alloy wheels with Pirelli P Zero tires.

Rimac didn't have much to say about the interior but noted the cabin doesn't have any plastic parts so everything the driver touches is aluminum, carbon fiber, or Alcantara upholstery. Drivers will also find a digital instrument cluster and a bespoke infotainment system with 4G connectivity.

Motivation is provided by an 82 kilowatt hour battery which powers four electric motors that are located at the center of both axles. This setup enables the car to produce a combined maximum output of 1,072 horsepower and 1,180 pound-feet of torque.

In terms of performance, the Concept_One can accelerate from 0-62 miles per hour in 2.6 seconds, 0-124 mph in 6.2 seconds, and 0-186 mph in 14.2 seconds. Given enough room, the car will eventually hit a top speed of 220 mph.

The four electric motors give the Concept_One a torque vectoring all-wheel-drive system which precisely calculates the optimal torque distribution between the wheels. The all-wheel-drive system has four-different modes - including comfort, control, track, and drift - and owners have the option to customize the system to their wishes or deactivate it completely.

In a statement, Rimac Automobili CEO Mate Rimac said “My goal was to not to create an electric version of existing supercars. I wanted to create technology to make the supercar considerably better in every regard – faster, more fun, and more efficient. I wanted to make the supercar of the 21st century."

Production will be limited to eight units but there's no word on pricing or availability.

Only 8 cars? Will that even cover all the years of development and costs for it?

Rimac still calls it the Concept_One in their description of its production version at their own website, it'd still be a better name than 'Production_One' though... Image

Wasn't Rimac the same guys who will be providing Koenigsegg the batteries and electric motors for the Regera?

Rimac made the Concept_One back in 2012. Koenigsegg got interest on said car. Koenigsegg asked Rimac if they wanted to collaborate to makin' the newest megacar. Rimac agreeed to do the electric power works.

Thus, the Regera was born.
