Zagato Raptor '96
Image

The Zagato Raptor, sometimes referred to as the Lamborghini Raptor, is a concept car design created in 1996 by Zagato in partnership with Alain Wicki for Lamborghini. The body features the Zagato "double bubble" design and an innovative door design where the whole middle section of the car swivels up and forward. The chassis is borrowed from a 4WD Lamborghini Diablo. The design was completed and a sample vehicle displayed at the Geneva Auto Show in 1996. At the time of showing, it was believed that the car was ready for production.

Utilizing the drive train and 492 hp V12 engine from the Diablo, but eliminating the ABS and traction control system, as well as the extensive use of carbon fiber for the body work made the vehicle significantly lighter than the Diablo, thus potentially faster. To make up for the lack of ABS and the higher potential speeds, an upgrade from the Diablo's braking system was used.

Most media sources speculated that it would have been an excellent car to bridge the gap between the Diablo and its successor, then called the Canto, but Lamborghini did not produce the Raptor. Alain Wicki briefly tried to develop it on his own with Zagato's help, but nothing became of his efforts. He owned the only prototype until 2000, when it was auctioned at the Geneva Auto Show and bought by a private car collector.

Mazda Cosmo L10B '68
Mazda Cosmo L10B '68.jpg
The Mazda Cosmo was a grand touring coupé produced by Mazda Motor Corporation from 1967 to 1995. Throughout its history, the Cosmo served as a "halo" vehicle for Mazda, with the first Cosmo successfully launching the Mazda Wankel engine. The final generation of Cosmo served as Mazda's flagship vehicle in Japan, being sold as the Eunos Cosmo through its luxury Eunos division in Japan.

Mazda chose to use the name cosmo, reflecting international cultural fascination with the Space Race, as Mazda wanted to showcase the rotary engine as forward-thinking, with a focus on future developments and technology.

The first Mazda to bear the Cosmo name (called the 110S on models intended for export) was the first 2-rotor rotary engine powered series car. A prototype was introduced at the 1964 Tokyo Motor Show after the introduction of the German made NSU Spider also in 1964 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and 80 pre-production Cosmos were produced for the Mazda test department (20) and for dealership testing (60) between 1965 and 1966. Full production began in May 1967 and lasted through 1972, though Cosmos were built by hand at a rate of only about one per day, for a total of 1,519 (343 Series I cars and 1,176 Series II cars). The car was also featured in the show Return of Ultraman.

The Series II/L10B was introduced in July, 1968. It had a more-powerful 128 hp/103 lb·ft 0813 engine, power brakes, 15 inch wheels and a 5-speed manual transmission. The wheelbase had been expanded by 15 inches (38.1 cm) for more room and a better ride. This Cosmo was good for over 193 km/h and could accelerate to cover a quarter mile (400 m) in 15.8 s.

Visual changes included a larger grille under the front bumper with two additional vents to each side of this "mouth". Only 1,176 were ever made, and fewer than six Series II models were initially imported into the United States.

Mazda MX-5 GT Jota '13
Mazda MX-5 GT Jota '13.jpg
At the 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed , Mazda unveiled the MX-5 GT Concept . Because the GT Concept’s reception was so warm, the Jota decided to produce this concept and add a little more pep to its step.

The new MX-5 GT Jota is based on the MX-5 Roadster Coupe 2.0-litre Sport Tech version, but Jota added a more powerful engine, an updated exterior look and a sportier cabin. What’s even cooler is that the new GT Jota is about 1.5 seconds faster to 100 km/h than a base MX-5.

The base setup includes a set of anthracite alloy wheels and a carbon-fiber rear diuffuser for enhanced aerodynamics. For buyers looking for that more custom appearance and even better aerodynamics, you can opt for a carbon front splitter and a carbon-fiber rear boot lip spoiler. Each car is hand-finished to order at Jota.

On the inside, Jota took things pretty easy. The only addition of note are the leather Recaro seats offered in three colors: White Pearl, True Red and Aluminum Silver Metallic. More additions and options may make their way into the package as Jota feels its way around customer demands.

When Mazda gave Jota its blessings to create the MX-5 GT Jota, it was clear in its expectations: deliver more than 200 horsepower, improve the handling and do not compromise the car’s fun-to-drive nature.

Jota was more than happy to oblige by tuning the 2.0-liter, four-pot engine to 203 horsepower — a 43-horsepower gain over the stock MX-5 Sport Tech — without the use of forced induction. As a result, the new MX-5 Jota sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.4 seconds - an improvement of 1.5 second over the base MX-5 Sport Tech — while top speed is limited to 225 km/h.

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII FQ-400 '03
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII FQ-400 '03.jpg
The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, also known as the Evo, is a high performance sports car manufactured by Mitsubishi Motors that is based on the normal Lancer. There have been ten official versions to date, and the designation of each model is most commonly a Roman numeral. All use two litre, turbocharged engines and all-wheel drive systems.

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII was modified again in 2003 this time sporting 17" grey Enkei wheels, Brembo Brakes and Bilstein shocks to handle traction and a 5-speed manual gearbox with 276 hp. Originally a one off model, sales were so successful in the U.S. that by 2005 it was available in four trims: the standard GSR model in Japan, the RS, 5-speed gearbox, and standard wheels (lacking excess components, such as interior map lights, power windows/doors, and radio), the SSL (with a sunroof, trunk mounted subwoofer, and leather seats), and the MR, which came with a revised limited-slip front differential, aluminum MR shift knob, handbrake with carbon fiber handle, 17 inch BBS wheels, aluminum roof, and a 6-speed manual gearbox. The new Evolution also sported chrome housing tail lights and head lights.

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII MR uses slick-response Bilstein shocks for improved handling. The aluminium roof panel and other reductions in body weight have lowered the centre of gravity to produce more natural roll characteristics. Detail improvements have also been made to Mitsubishi's own electronic four-wheel drive, to the ACD 5 + Super AYC 6 traction control, and to the Sports ABS systems. The Lancer Evolution VIII displayed at the 2003 Tokyo Motor Show took the MR designation traditionally reserved for Mitsubishi Motors high-performance models (first used for the Galant GTO). Other parts on the MR include BBS alloy wheels, the aforementioned Bilstein shocks, and an aluminium roof. In the United Kingdom, many special Evolutions were introduced, including the FQ300, FQ320, FQ340, and FQ400 variants. They came with 305, 325, 345, and 405 hp, respectively. Although Mitsubishi have not confirmed the fact, it is widely rumoured that the FQ stands for "F***ing Quick".

The FQ400, sold through Ralliart UK, produces 405 hp from its 2.0 L 4G63 engine, the result of special modifications by United Kingdom tuning firms Rampage Tuning, Owen Developments, and Flow Race Engines. At 202.9 hp per litre, it has one of the highest specific outputs per litre of any roadcar engine. With a curb weight of 1,450 kg, it achieves 0 - 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, and a top speed of 282 km/h.

BBC's television series Top Gear demonstrated that the stock FQ-400 could surprisingly keep up with a Lamborghini Murciélago around a test track. The Stig recorded a Top Gear Power Lap Times of 1 minute and 24.8 seconds (damp track), 1.1 seconds slower than the Murciélago's time of 1 minute 23.7 seconds. (dry track) In a similar test conducted by Evo magazine, the Evolution was able to lap the Bedford Autodrome faster than an Audi RS4 and a Porsche 911 Carrera 4S.

BMW 3.0 CSL '72
BMW 3.0 CSL '72.jpg
Introduced in May 1972, the 3.0CSL was a homologation special built to make the car eligible for racing in the European Touring Car Championship.

The "L" in the designation meant leicht (light), unlike in other BMW designations, where it meantlang (long). The lightness was achieved by using thinner steel to build the unit body, deleting the trim and soundproofing, using aluminium alloy doors, bonnets, and boot lids, and using Perspex side windows.

The five hundred 3.0CSLs exported to the United Kingdom were not quite as light as the others, as the importer had insisted on retaining the soundproofing, electric windows, and stock E9 bumpers on these cars.

Initially using the same engine as the 3.0CS, the 3.0CSL was given a very small increase in displacement to 3,003 cc (183.3 cu in) by increasing the engine bore by one quarter of a millimetre. This was done in August 1972 to allow the CSL to be raced in the "over three litre" racing category, allowing for some increase in displacement in the racing cars.

In 1973, the engine in the 3.0CSL was given another, more substantial increase in displacement to 3,153 cc (192.4 cu in) by increasing the stroke to 84 mm (3.3 in). This final version of the 3.0CSL was homologated in July 1973 along with an aerodynamic package including a large air dam, short fins running along the front fenders, a spoiler above and behind the trailing edge of the roof, and a tall rear wing.

The rear wings were not installed at the factory, but were left in the boot for installation after purchase. This was done because the wings were illegal for use on German roads.
The full aero package earned the racing CSLs the nickname "Batmobile".

Spyker C8 Aileron '11
Spyker C8 Aileron '11.jpg
The Spyker C8 Aileron is a sports car produced by the Dutch automaker Spyker Cars, it was introduced at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.

Exterior:
Meticulously hand-crafted and inspired by the company’s rich and storied history in aviation, the C8 Aileron represents the latest in Spyker’s signature architecture. The new C8 Aileron takes off from the design language of its predecessor, albeit with a shift in philosophy: from the propeller design that has come to define the last model, the new C8 Aileron now takes its inspiration to the turbine propulsion.

In doing this, a number of design elements from the last model were scrapped, all in the name of enhancing aerodynamic performance.

Noted by their absence in the new model include the polished air inlets that have been turned into turbine-engine-shaped air scoops; the removal of the shark-like gills to give the car a cleaner and smoother appearance; a larger front grille that provides additional cooling; a redesigned rear diffuser to improve functionality; and an extra spoiler placed under the diffuser to give the car extra downforce.

More to the design of the new C8 Aileron was Spyker’s motivation to give the car more substance over style. As such, the company gave the new car single-pane, full retractable side windows compared to the split-side window design of the old model. Similarly, the outside mirrors on the new car were redesigned and mounted on two turbine fan blades.

As for the lights, the new C8 Aileron has LED lights on the indicators, the sidelights, and the entire rear lights setting. Upon inspection, you’ll also notice that the headlights have been redesigned to follow the body design of the car more closely, which is an indication of the new design philosophy Spyker is instituting with the new model line-up.

Interior:

The interior of the C8 Aileron comes with more breathing room, courtesy of the space created by the car’s longer chassis. To ensure that the level of comfort and ergonomic satisfaction remains top-class, Spyker took careful attention to details, opting for the highest quality leather in the form of the Litano range of the Dutch Royal Tannery Hulshof. This leather option is available in 14 standard colors and if the customer wishes for a more exotic flavor to the leather, it can be ordered as an option.

In the front, the C8 Aileron’s dashboard was completely redesigned to better suit Spyker’s new design direction. The air vents, like the various references on the exterior, have been designed with the same turbine style configuration. In addition, a multifunctional LCD display has been integrated between the speedometer and the odometer with the car’s middle console accommodates the C8 Aileron’s standard Kharma sound system.

Performance:

C8 Aileron has a 6.2-liter LSA V8 engine - the same one under the hood of the Corvette ZR1 and Cadillac CTS-V - that produces over 500 horsepower.
