Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale '67
Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale '67.jpg
The Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale is a mid-engined sports car built by Alfa Romeo of Italy. "Stradale" (Italian for "road-going") is a term often used by Italian car manufacturers to indicate a street-legal version of a sports car. The car was introduced at the Sport Car Show at Monza, Italy in September 1967. Only 18 have been made. The prototype (chassis No. 750.33.01) was sold to private Gallery Abarth, Japan, a magnesium bodied Stradale replica (chassis No. 105.33.12) built in late 1970s and the five concept cars are now part of the Alfa Romeo Museum. In Top Gear's 100 Sexiest Cars list, the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale was featured as number 15.

The 33 Stradale, first built in 1967, was based on the Autodelta Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 racing car. The car, designed by Franco Scaglione, and built by Carrozzeria Marazzi, made its debut at the 1967 Turin Motorshow. The 33 Stradale is the first production vehicle to feature dihedral doors, also known as butterfly doors. The 33 Stradale also features windows which seamlessly curve upward into the 'roof' of the vehicle. The car has aluminium body on aluminium tubular chassis. As a result of being built by hand, each model differs from the others for some details. For example, early models had twin headlights, replaced in the last ones by single lights. The position of the windscreen wiper, and even the number of them, is another thing that differentiates each example from the others. Also the late models have vents added behind both the front and rear wheels to allow hot air from the brakes to escape.

The race-bred engine bore no relation to the mass-produced units in Alfa's more mainstream vehicles. Race engineer Carlo Chiti designed an oversquare (78 mm (3.1 in) bore x 52.2 mm (2.1 in) stroke) dry-sump lubricated all aluminum 1,995 cc (121.7 cu in) V8 that featured SPICA fuel injection, four ignition coils and 16 spark plugs. The engine used four chain-driven camshafts to operate the valve train and had a rev-limit of 10,000 rpm. The engine produced 230 hp at 8,800 rpm in road trim and 270 hp in race trim. The engine valves are operated via chain-driven double-overhead cams and has a 10.5:1 compression ratio. Because every Stradale is hand built and unique the power levels can vary by car, used rpms etc., for example the first production Stradale (No. 750.33.101) has factory datasheet that claims 243 hp at 9,400 rpm with a "street" exhaust and 254 hp with open exhaust.

In another break from convention Alfa used, for the first time on a production car, a six-speed transaxle gearbox by Valerio Colotti. The car has 13-inch Campagnolo-made magnesium wheels and Girling disc brakes on all four corners, the rear ones are inboard type. Despite wheel diameter is just 13 inches the wheels are eight and nine inches wide, front and rear. Suspension is like in mid-1960s race car with upper and lower control arms in front and double trailing arms in the rear, along with substantial antiroll bars.

Although the Stradale is a road car, it has some limitations which may make the everyday use slightly hard, for example missing locks and the lack of ground clearance.

Length: 3,970 mm (156.3 in)
Width:1,71 0 mm (67.3 in)
Height: 991 mm (39.0 in)
Curb weight: 700 kg

Silvermine 11SR '15
Silvermine 11SR '15.jpg
When it comes to making cars there are lots of countries that are known for creating incredible machines. The Germans do sport and luxury, the Italians do the supercar thing, and nobody makes a truck like they do in USA, but with the exception of Spyker, the Netherlands doesn’t really have any presence in the automotive space. Now a new company called SIlvermine is entering the market with a car called the 11SR. A mid-engined track toy, with a focus on light weight, the 11SR is going to help put the Dutch on the map in the performance space.

The car is still far from complete, but Silvermine has released some details on the car’s exterior and drivetrain. A flat-six engine from Subaru is providing the thrust, and the new body is a nice combination of classic lines and modern touches.

Unlike the majority of cars, the exterior of the 11SR was designed after the car’s running chassis had been constructed. Rather than find a way to fit components inside of a designer’s shell, the two designers, brothers Marco and Andries van Overbeeke had to create a shape that would fit over a car that was already built. To help show off a bit of the engineering work that went into the chassis of the 11SR, the rear features exposed sections. The gear lever mechanism, engine bay and adjustable suspension are all visible under the “tailgate” of the car.

There is very little interior to speak of in the traditional sense. The cockpit of the 11SR so far is completely functional with no extraneous parts or amenities. A pair of stiff racing buckets sit inside the metal shell, with the driver having little more than the steering wheels, gauges and manual shifter within reach. It is a testament to this car’s purpose a true track machine.

Powering the 11SR currently is a 3.0-liter11 flat-six boxer engine that was sourced from Subaru. It is functionally identical to the engine that Subaru used in Legacy and Outback models during the 2000’s. Currently, the horsepower is sitting at the stock level of 225, but Silvermine is promising that production models will hit the road with 325 hp under the bonnet.

Italdesign Maya II EM '85
Italdesign Maya II EM '85.jpg
The Italdesign Maya is a realistic prototype, thought for a little daily production, designed to keep industrial investment quite curbed. The line is typically wedged and reminds prototypes like the Mangusta, Boomerang or Tapiro, but it is smoother and guarantees a 0,28 cx. Created for American market, the front has a soft-nose bumper, plastic and capable of being deformed material filled with polyurethane resins. Inside, the steering wheel is equipped with a disc containing all the car controls. The engine, with a transversal driving axle, is a Ford USA experimental prototype, 3 litres, 60° 6V cylinders, 4 valves for each cylinder and 250 hp.

After prototypes of Lotus Etna and Maya premiered at Turin Motor Show, Ford requested the development of a model with a modified design (Maya II ES) and of a spare car with longitudinal engine (Maya II EM). The Maya general architecture remained the same, but the lines were smoother, Ford requests are especially bounded to particular solutions like the use of a central air intake like the one used for Ferrari. It is curious to know the story of the painting: Ford wanted a flaming red, but when Maya II ES came back to Italdesign, it was immediately re-painted in two different tones of metal grey.

Painted in Ferrari red, Maya II EM is finished in July 1985 and immediately moved to USA at Dearborn, headquarter of Ford. Unlike the Maya, the great engine hood wedged at the end of the roof disappear, and substituted with a door. Even the second light disappears, substituted with three vertical slits. The engine is a Ford 6V 3 litres, 300 hp bi-turbocharged.

Nice choice, I was thinking about making the post for that one.

Now I'm left without any ideas. Special offer: I'll let you choose the next car I should feature since you already made the post for the one that I wanted.

Porsche 911 GT2 RS '11
Porsche 911 GT2 RS '11.JPG
The Porsche 911 GT2 was a high performance sports car built by the German manufacturer Porsche from 1993 to 2012. It was based on the 911 Turbo, and uses a similar twin-turbocharged engine, but features numerous upgrades, including engine upgrades, larger brakes, and stiffer suspension calibration. The GT2 is significantly lighter than the Turbo due to its use of rear-wheel drive instead of all-wheel drive, and the lightening or removal of interior components. As a result, the GT2 was the most expensive and the highest trim level within the 911 lineup.

The German automaker made sure that the car’s exterior and interior features didn't disappoint. So they decided to go all-out on the car’s aesthetics, starting with the lavish use of carbon-fiber-reinforced (CFR) components in a matte-black surface finish, even wider wheels and flared wheel arches at the front, new 911 GT2 light-alloy wheels with central locking, as well as ”GT2 RS“ model designations on the doors and rear lid. There’s also an upgraded front spoiler lip and a rear spoiler lip made of CFR that is 10 millimeters or almost 0.4 inches higher, giving the supercar the right aerodynamic precision to go with the added downforce. As for the interior, the 911 GT2 RS exudes the flair and panache of top quality sporting performance in virtually every detail, including the lightweight bucket seats made of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic in carbon surface finish and lightweight door panels with door opening straps. The basic interior color is black, which is attractively in contrast to the seat center sections and the roof lining, as well as segments on the steering wheel rim. Keeping up with this luxurious styling, the 911 GT2 RS’ gearshift and handbrake lever are both finished in red Alcantara.

The 911 GT2 RS is powered by a 3.6 liter six-cylinder boxer engine that’s boosted by two turbochargers with variable turbine geometry and mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. The car produces 620 horsepower with a 0 to 100 km/h time of just 3.5 seconds, a top speed of 330 km/h, and an impressive Nurburgring lap time of seven minutes and 18 seconds.
