Watanabe Lycaon '70
Watanabe Lycaon '70.jpg
After the first series of Japanese Grand Prix events held through the mid to late 1960s, the racing scene absolutely exploded in Japan, with amateurs and professionals alike hurriedly taking to local tracks in order to experience the joys of driving quickly.

Living on an isolated island means that enthusiasts were forced to improvise, especially when it came to sourcing spare parts. For sports car and formula racing, it would be even more difficult to get parts—especially body parts. For those, a number of small constructors took to their own sketch pads and created everything from wings to entire cars from fibreglass. One such person was Masao Watanabe, an engineer by trade who was swept up in the racing craze and was found to be very skilled at creating and setting up Formula 3 cars.

In 1970 at the 3rd annual Tokyo Racing Car Show, 2 Watanabe-created vehicles were exhibited, the Flying Pegasus (Griffon) and the Lycaon. This marked the beginning of the super obscure Carrozzeria Watanabe.

The Lycaon was inspired by the stag-beetle.The body is the actual beetle and you can see the mandibles at the front. The car used a tuned Nissan Skyline 1500 engine, which delivered 140 hp.

Differently from the Griffon, the Lycaon was a one-off.

Touring Superleggera Disco Volante '13
Touring Superleggera Disco Volante '13.jpg
At the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, Touring Superleggera showed a modern interpretation of the coupe version of the legendary Alfa Romeo Disco Volante created 60 years earlier by the Italian carrozzeria. Designed to be draped over an Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione chassis, the car on display in 2012 was a non functional, full-scale model. Potential customers were invited to supply an 8C for the six-month conversion.

At least one customer stepped forward and at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, the first complete car was shown. At the time, it was still referred to as a Touring Disco Volante but, no doubt helped by the universal praise the car received, Alfa Romeo officially sanctioned the Disco Volante a few weeks later. A year later, a third example was shown in Geneva and Touring Superleggera, the production run would eventually consist of eight Disco Volantes.

The 4,000 man hour process starts with one of the 500 Alfa Romeo 8C Competiziones built, which is stripped inside and out, while the actual chassis and running gear are left untouched. That means the Disco Volante boasts a 450 hp V8, mated to a paddle operated six-speed gearbox. The 8C rolling chassis is clothed in a body that is a mix of carbon-fibre composite and aluminium panels. As in the old days, the panels are mounted on a frame, which in this case is constructed from carbon-fibre as well.

On the exterior, the new Disco Volante takes its design inspiration from the 1952 Alfa Romeo C52 Disco Volante, but it offers it a modern interpretation. The model combines ingredients like "innovation, emotion and aerodynamic properties into a timeless and essential shape."

Unlike the 1952 model, the new Disco Volante received a slightly higher bonnet needed for engine-bay ventilation, but the Touring Superleggera tried to retain the original proportions by as much as possible.

The exterior tried to retain the original feeling offered by the 1952 Disco Volante model, but the interior offers a contemporary feeling, or, as the maker calls it, a "science fiction" feel. In order to obtain this feeling, Touring Superleggera added elements like the red LED interior lights, while the dashboard, instruments and seat-adjustment lever were inspired by the aeronautic world.

For the interior trim, the maker created special leather that reproduces the exterior color. Customers can also get special black Alcantara, but the list of personalization offered for the interior is quite long.

Aston Martin Jet 2+2 by Bertone '13
Bertone Jet 2+2 '13.jpg
The Aston Martin Jet 2+2 is a concept car designed by Bertone. It was shown at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. A collector named Barry commissioned the one-off build. The Bertone Jet 2+2 gen 2 is based on the same platform as the Aston Martin Rapide.

The most obvious and striking detail about the Jet 2+2 is that it’s been designed with a shooting-brake style body that actually looks like it could move the consumer needle significantly in the "buy" section.

The Rapide’s striking front profile is clearly evident and when combined with the stretched and muscular lines of a shooting brake, clearly exudes a sleek and elegant concept that looks pretty astounding.

According to Autocar, Bertone intentionally bent the C-pillars forward and connected them to the wheel arches to create a visual perception idle aggression that certainly hit all the right spots.

Looking at the rear end, you’ll notice that Bertone made some significant modifications, highlighted by a full-length LED strip connecting the Rapide-style taillights, creating a pronounced look that complements the supercar’s change from a sedan to a shooting brake.

The Jet 2+2 is be powered by the same engine as that of the Rapide sedan, a 6.0-liter V-12 that produces 477 horsepower fitted under the hood of this one-off creation.

Saker RapX '10
Saker RapX '10.jpg
Saker Sports Cars originated in New Zealand and have been manufactured from 1989 to the present day. The Saker car is named after the bird of prey, found in the Middle East and Central Asia. Since 2003 Sakers are produced in the Netherlands by Saker Sportscars.

The Saker RapX is a very light car, 785 kilos. Powered by a Subaru original block developing 272 hp (but it can be pushed up to 400). It is not huge given the GT3 engine, but the weight content allows fairly exceptional performance figures such as the 0 to 100 km/h run in 3.4 s.

The transmission and suspension have the same origin. The chassis is supported by tubular steel with a chromium molybdenum hoop. The front axle is easily replaceable, whereas the body has fifteen different polyester components.

I agree, and the only other wagon that can rival its looks is the Fisker Karma Surf. Image

Both are sadly not production cars though. Image

Alright, I already knew about the Saker manufacturer because of the SV1 (that's already in the list although it needs better pictures), but I've never heard of this one. That's a lovely design, the colour also helps. Image

I'm glad you liked it.

While trying to build a post for a certain car I just found out it was just a mock-up made by some third-party amateur designer, I think you will really not want the Lamborghini Toro LA690-4 in the list anymore, Tsuki-chan.

Lamborghini Sesto Elemento '10
Lamborghini Sesto Elemento '13.jpg
The Lamborghini Sesto Elemento ("Sixth Element" in English) is a two-door, two-seater, V10 high-performance lightweight limited edition car produced by Italian automaker Lamborghini, which debuted at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. The Sesto Elemento's name is a reference to the atomic number of carbon, in recognition of the car's extensive use of carbon fibre.

The main component of the new Sesto Elemento is carbon fiber and more specifically carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP). Lamborghini has been able to successfully develop a process that takes the material from 3D design through simulation, validation, testing, and finally into production. Its collaboration with the Boeing company is perhaps one of the most important to the development of this vehicle. The two companies have been able to develop the CFRP design much further than ever before thanks to their ACRC (Advanced Composite Research Center). Two of the most unique parts designed for the exterior are the wheels made entirely out of carbon fiber and the exhaust system which is made out of a material called Pyrosic. This is a glass ceramic composite that can withstand high heat.

“The Lamborghini Sesto Elemento shows how the future of the super sports car can look – extreme lightweight engineering, combined with extreme performance results in extreme driving fun. We put all of our technological competence into one stunning form to create the Sesto Elemento,” comments Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini.

Nearly every panel of the vehicle is graced with this carbon fiber material including the monocoque passenger cell, front frame, exterior panels, and crash boxes. One of the coolest aspects of the car is that it remains unpainted in the traditional sense. The panels shine through in a matte finish, but Lamborghini has added one last piece of magic to their carbon-fiber. Towards the end of the development process fine crystals are added to the mixture and in the end a red glow is added to the entire exterior. The surface is not only stunning, but actually much stronger than a normal paint job.

Cool air is able to flow through two red triangular openings in the hood beneath the front windscreen and through large outlets in the side panels behind the front wheels. Sharply cut headlamp units complete the front end. Alongside the bi-xenon lamps, there are four LEDs in each unit. The low front end looks incredibly dominant, with the partially double-lipped front spoiler pushed way out front and distinctively formed air intakes. A powerful sideline starts at the front wheel arch, rises along the door towards the rear and ends at the broad shoulders above the rear wheel. The triangle shape is used extensively – and can be seen everywhere from the door handles to the points of the air outlet triangles in the hood that are carried through into lines along the roof. The aerodynamic elements of the Sesto Elemento are unmatched in today’s world and the design is absolutely stunning.

Lamborghini has been able to take a standard car interior and completely turn it on its head. The design of the Sesto Elemento circles around function rather than form and the first defines the latter. The interior is exclusively shaped by the carbon fiber monocoque tub which provides a minimalist yet purely Lamborghini feeling. The most unique feature is the fact that the Sesto Elemento does not have seats. Quite literally the cushioning is fixed to the carbon fiber tub giving the driver an unparalled sense of road feel. In order to adapt drivers of differing stature the steering wheel is completely adjustable for height and reach. Furthermore, the pedals can be adjusted longitudinally.

With the Elemento having an overall curb weight of just 999 kg and a massive V10 power unit feeding a permanent all-wheel drive system, this car is sure to impress on the track. Output is 570 hp giving the lightweight bull a power to weight ratio of 1.75 kilograms per horsepower. What that statistic really comes down to is the car being able to accelerate from a standstill through 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds.

That car is on the list probably because someone suggested it or because it's there since the first day. :|

By the Nine Divines, I'm glad the car you two are talking about has nothing to do with Lamborghini itself, it's ugly as oblivion!
