Fiat Barchetta '95
Fiat Barchetta '95.jpg
The Fiat Barchetta is a roadster produced by the Italian manufacturer Fiat from 1995 to 2005 (though production was paused between May 2002 and 2004). "Barchetta" in Italian means 'little boat'.

The Barchetta was developed between 1990 and 1994 under the project name Tipo B Spider 176. It was designed by Andreas Zapatinas and Alessandro Cavazza under the supervision of Peter Barrett Davis and other car designers at the Fiat Centro Stile, and prototyping was carried out by Stola.

Production began in February 1995 and lasted until June 2005, with a brief pause due to the bankruptcy of coachbuilder Maggiora. The Barchetta was based on the chassis of the Mark 1 Fiat Punto. The Barchetta has 1,747 cc DOHC petrol engine fitted with variable camshaft timing, used for the first time in a Fiat production car, after being patented in 1970. The engine has 130 hp and 121 lb·ft of torque. The Barchetta weighs 1056 kg without air conditioning and can accelerate to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds and has a top speed of 200 km/h. It came in various trim levels which offered different features, for example, diamond cross stitch - patterned red leather instead of the standard black leather or fabric seats, alloy wheels instead of steel wheels, or fog-lights as an option. Arguably one of the biggest external cosmetic changes was made by the addition of the third brake light, first introduced by Fiat on the Lido and Riviera in 2000, and on sub models thereafter.

The Barchetta was revised in 2003 for its relaunch the following year, with some alterations inside and out. The most notable changes were the revised front spoiler and rear bumper. Production of the car eventually stopped in June 2005.

Sbarro GT-HDi '02

At the Geneva Motor Show 2002, Peugeot had two beautiful concept cars, the RC, one of which was powered by a diesel HDI. Curiously, Espera promotion 2002-2003 students presented a prototype containing specifications and a general line very close: the GT-HDI.

Echoing a jumble of elements drawn in the Peugeot range (206 CC, 307 and 607), this 950 kg two-seater sports coupe is powered by a 146 hp diesel 2.2-liter HDI with a 5-speed manual gearbox from a Peugeot 607. The engine is placed in the rear center to provide a better distribution of the masses. The rear suspension is from the 607, while front we find springs and dampers short Koni. The tubular chassis is specific to the GT-HDI and ensures the necessary rigidity to this type of vehicle. The body, entirely original, is wrapped by a polyester. In the puzzle game, we can see the front and rear lights from a 307, while the windshield is from a 206 CC.

Volvo P1800E '70
Volvo P1800E '70.jpg
The project was started in 1957 because Volvo wanted a sports car, despite the fact that their previous attempt, the P1900, had been a disaster, with only 68 cars sold. The man behind the project was an engineering consultant to Volvo, Helmer Petterson, who in the 1940s was responsible for the Volvo PV444. The design work was done by Helmer's son Pelle Petterson, who worked at Pietro Frua at that time. Volvo insisted it was an Italian design by Frua and only officially recognized that Pelle Petterson designed it in 2009. The Italian Carrozzeria Pietro Frua design firm (then a recently acquired subsidiary of Ghia) built the first three prototypes between September 1957 and early 1958, later designated by Volvo in September 1958: P958-X1, P958-X2 and P958-X3 (P:Project 9:September 58:Year 1958 = P958).

1957 Prototype P958-X1
In December 1957 Helmer Petterson drove X1, (the first hand-built P1800 prototype) to Osnabrück, West Germany, headquarters of Karmann. Petterson hoped that Karmann would be able to take on the tooling and building of the P1800. Karmann's engineers had already been preparing working drawings from the wooden styling buck at Frua. Petterson and Volvo chief engineer Thor Berthelius met there, tested the car and discussed the construction with Karmann. They were ready to build it and this meant that the first cars could hit the market as early as December 1958. But in February, Karmann's most important customer, Volkswagen VAG, forbade Karmann to take on the job. They feared that the P1800 would compete with the sales of their own cars, and threatened to cancel all their contracts with Karmann if they took on this car. This setback almost caused the project to be abandoned.

Other German firms, NSU, Drautz and Hanomag, were contacted but none was chosen because Volvo did not believe they met Volvo's manufacturing quality-control standards.

It began to appear that Volvo might never produce the P1800. This motivated Helmer Petterson to obtain financial backing from two financial firms with the intention of buying the components directly from Volvo and marketing the car himself. At this point Volvo had made no mention of the P1800 and the factory would not comment. Then a press release surfaced with a photo of the car, putting Volvo in a position where they had to acknowledge its existence. These events influenced the company to renew its efforts: the car was presented to the public for the first time at the Brussels Motor Show in January 1960 and Volvo turned to Jensen Motors, whose production lines were under-utilised, and they agreed a contract for 10,000 cars. The Linwood, Scotland, body plant of manufacturer Pressed Steel was in turn sub-contracted by Jensen to create the unibody shells, which were then taken by rail to be assembled at Jensen in West Bromwich, England. In September 1960, the first production P1800 (for the 1961 model year) left Jensen for an eager public.

The engine was the B18 (B for the Swedish word for gasoline: Bensin; 18 for 1800 cc displacement) with dual SU carburettors, producing 100 hp. This variant (named B18B) had a higher compression ratio than the slightly less powerful twin-carb B18D used in the contemporary Amazon 122S, as well as a different camshaft.
For 1970 numerous changes came with the fuel-injected 1800E, which had the B20E engine with Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection and a revised camshaft, and produced 130 hp without sacrificing fuel economy. Top speed was around 190 km/h and acceleration from 0–100 km/h took 9.5 seconds. In addition, the 1970 model was the first 1800 with four-wheel disc brakes; till then the 1800 series had front discs and rear drums.

Nismo Sentra '13
Nismo Sentra '13.jpg
When Nissan unveiled the new Juke Nismo , it also announced that it was simply the tip of the iceberg for the new Nismo family. This concept was on display next to the GT-R Nismo at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The concept features the usual Nismo elements, like the more powerful engine, the aerodynamic kit, tuned suspensions and a high performance braking system, red accents all over and, of course, a sporty interior. The Sentra Nismo Concept rocks a Bright Pearl White exterior paint combined with a carbon fiber pattern on numerous exterior elements and the staple Nismo red line on the front spoiler lip, the side skirts, the rear spoiler and the exterior mirrors.

Just like with pretty much every other Nismo vehicle, the new Sentra Concept features a cool aerodynamic kit that includes a deep front fascia with lower LED lights, a wide lower front spoiler and wide lower grille. The side feature over-sized fender flares and integrated side sills. On the rear the concept gets a deep-skirted rear fascia accentuated by large dual exhaust tips. The aerodynamic features are further enhanced by a rear spoiler inspired by the one found in the 370Z.

The concept feature a paint scheme similar to the GT-R Nismo, as the body is painted Bright Pearl White and includes a carbon-fiber diagonal pattern found on the side-view mirror caps, a front splitter and a rear diffuser. Red accents on the front spoiler, side mirrors and side sills, and the "O" on the "Nismo" badges let drivers know that this isn’t your typical Sentra.

The interior also receives a hefty dose of Nismo, as it features Recaro "Sportster" front seats wrapped in a nice combination of black leather and Alcantara, while the rear seats get perforated black Alcantara.

The steering wheel also gets a Nismo-inspired look, and comes wrapped in black leather with a red-leather centering strip. Nismo added in a carbon-fiber finish on the instrument cluster, and included the signature Nismo anodized red rings around the start button and tachometer.

Under the hood is where this Nismo Concept really makes its mark, as it is the most revolutionary Sentra powerplant since the SR20DE mid-1990s SE-R model. This is where Nismo installed the same engine found in the Juke Nismo RS: a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. This four-banger throws down a monstrous 240 horsepower and more than 240 pound-feet of torque through a six-speed manual transmission.
