Jaguar XFR-S '14
Jaguar XFR-S '14.jpg
The Jaguar XF (codename: X250) is an executive/mid-size luxury car and estate produced by British car manufacturer Jaguar Cars which was first revealed in autumn 2007 as a replacement for the Jaguar S-Type.

The 2014 Jaguar XFR-S borrowed the exterior design elements from the XKR-S to distinguish it from the standard XFR. Carbon fiber played an important role in developing the aerodynamic package and it is used on the deeper front bumper with its larger lower-central and side air intakes, and the front splitter at the lower edge of the bumper. On the backside, the same material has been used for the central diffuser and the large rear wing.

The exterior package also includes extended side sills and aero blade, side moldings, an extended rear bumper, and a new spoiler that reduces rear lift.

Customers can choose between five exterior colors: French Racing Blue, Ultimate Black, Stratus Gray, Polaris White and Italian Racing Red. All of them will be combined with a gloss-black trim around the grille, around the front and rear screens, windows and across the trunk. The XFR-S will be offered with lightweight Varuna forged alloy wheels featuring a ceramic polish applied to the outer surfaces.

The interior also offers the same choices as the XKR-S. It includes a selection of carbon leather on the seat bolsters and armrests, and a dark mesh aluminum fascia. An exclusive feature for the R-S model is the Warm Charcoal leather trim on the seats, doors, seat bolsters and armrests. An R-S logo has been embossed on the seats and it can be finished with a choice of contrast color micro-piping and stitching in red, blue or ivory.

Under the hood, Jaguar has installed the same engine you will find in the XKR-S: a 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 unit that delivers a total of 550 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque. That’s good for an increase of 40 horsepower and 41 pound-feet of torque over the XFR. With the extra power the XFR-S will sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds and up to a top speed of 300 km/h (electronically limited).

In order to obtain the extra power, the engineers needed to make revisions to the engine management system along with improvements to the intake and exhaust flow. The exhaust system replaces the central muffler with an X-pipe and near-straight-through rear pipes. Other changes include uprated half-shafts, a larger central bearing on the driveshaft, and a new torque converter.

The engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with Quickshift technology. It can be operated in manual, Sport or Automatic modes. While running in the first two modes it automatically blips the throttle to ensure the XFR-S accelerates smoothly out of corners. In automatic mode, it can detect the manner in which the car is being driven by monitoring acceleration and braking, cornering forces, throttle and brake pedal activity, road load and kick-down request. From there, the transmission makes adjustments on the fly.

The XFR-S is a car specially designed for high-performance driving, so to no one’s surprise, the suspension and braking systems also needed updated.

The suspension system has been updated and then tested on the Nurburgring track and in Nardo, Italy. The stiffness has been increased by 30 percent, the front knuckles have been revised and engineers added a new rear subframe.

The XFR-S is offered with standard 20-inch Varuna alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli tires exclusively developed for the XFR-S, and measuring 265/35R20 and 295/30R20 front/rear. The wheels are combined with a high-Performance braking system that includes 380 mm (14.96-inch) front and 376 mm (14.80-inch) rear discs.

Donkervoort D8 GTO '12
Donkervoort D8 GTO '12.jpg
Donkervoort Automobielen BV is a manufacturer of authentic hand-built and ultra light weight sports cars based in Lelystad in The Netherlands. This car brand was founded in 1978 by Joop Donkervoort.

The Donkervoort D8 GTO is a completely new creation. the D8 GTO takes the reigns from its predecessors as a larger model that comes with matching performance capabilities. The D8 GTO is the product of a collaboration between Donkervoort Automobielen and Audi Quattro GmbH and was developed for two-and-something years.

Looking the part of a rocket on four wheels, the Donkervoort D8 GTO epitomizes all the qualities that are earmarks of a unique sports car. The steel tubular frame is joined by large carbon composites to bring out a wicked combination of increased rigidity and ultra-light weight. Engineers of the company also used some techniques from the aviation industry that have never before been applied to a car, including the use of carbon composite on a one-piece door that comes with integrated hinges. This door is capable of withstanding a force of over 1,100 kilos, all while weighing in at a remarkable 980 kg.

The car’s aluminum bonnet was also designed to become lightweight and easily operational. Even the undercarriage of the car has been extensively modified to include a front axle that has been equipped with a totally new anti-roll bar and the rear axle construction.

The interior of the two-seater D8 GTO also speaks to its real purpose as a pure-bred race car. Lush amenities were disregarded in favor of a more straight-forward approach to performance, highlighted by a fully-equipped dashboard with a special race module switch and traction control.

The car is powered by a 2.5-liter TFSI Audi engine that produces 340 horsepower, which can then be bumped up to 400 horsepower, thanks to the aforementioned "race module" switch, and 331 lb/ft of torque.

Sbarro Cyrano '07
Sbarro Cyrano '07.jpg
The Sbarro Cyrano meets very simple specifications: a very light vehicle and a powerful engine. The result is the prototype two-seater Formula 3, with a 160 HP Yamaha R1 and a weight does not exceeding 400 kg. The performance become explosive. This vehicle was designed and developed by 5 students from the Ecole Espace Sparro in Grandson.

Detail, look at the front of the car and you will understand that this very special nose gave his name to this car as a tribute to Cyrano de Bergerac.

Sbarro Mille Miglia II '06
Sbarro Mille Miglia II '06.jpg

In 2005, Franco Sbarro presented the Mille Miglia, an evocation of the sports cars of the 50s and 60s. The car itself was an interpretation of the 1959 Ferrari Testarossa and therefore not an exact replica.

In 2006, he built at the request of two clients, two other Mille Miglia, slightly different:

The first, red, is more opulent with its leather interior and seats more comfortable. Wheel Borrani gives a retro style.

The white version is more spartan and more competition oriented. The client wanted a single bump on the back of the head of the pilot. This car received a blue stripe in its length and around the grille. It has a different front cover.

For both models, the basic mechanics is a Ferrari V12 engine: 5 liters, with about 360 horsepower. Among the differences with the 2005 version, we can note the presence of two tail lights instead of four.

Sbarro Stash '74
Sbarro Stash '74.jpg
In 1974, Sbarro presented at the Geneva Motor Show its latest creation: the Stash. This three-seater coupe has been designed on the basis of SV1 with a more harmonious design. Two body styles are offered: coupé or cabriolet (targa type), the latter being called HS.

The chassis, similar to the SV1, consists of a central beam connected to a tubular frame and a reinforced roll cage doubled, all drowned in two polyester cage. Braking is provided by four discs.

Abandoning the rotary engine of the SV1, the Stash is available with several engines. The first comes from Volkswagen, a 4-cylinder 1.8-liter K70 . The second is from Mercedes 450 SE. The third is a 6.9-liter V8, twice as powerful as the VW block, with 286 horsepower.

Such powers may not look apealing today, but we must remember that at the time an Alpine A110 developed 95 horses, a Ferrari 308 just 255 horses. The Stash is far from being under powered, even in 4-cylinder version. The version 6.9 equipped with the Mercedes reached 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds. Or roughly the performance of a Ferrari 308.

Only 5 of the Stash copies have been sold. The car has, as Sbarro said himself, "a beautiful appearance, it is convenient and relatively cheap." The Stash is unknown and did not get the attention it would have deserved. It is very difficult to know what these rare cars have become today.

Sbarro ACA Dominique III '68
Sbarro ACA Dominique III '68.jpg
In April 1968, Sbarro was based ACA, Atelier de Construction Automobile, in a former cigarette factory. The first model of the ACA was the Dominique III, a very low small sports car, powered by a V8 Ford GT40 4.7 and equipped with air-brakes.

A one-off, the car was ordered by Pierre-Yves-Mourgues d'Algues, who lived in London. Franco Sbarro himself delivered the car in England, by road. The painting of the hood was damaged during the trip, leaving Franco Sbarro much embarrassed when arriving in England. It was during this trip that Franco Sbarro met Eric Broadley, Lola and GT40 designer. He was impressed by Dominique III, so Sbarro took the opportunity to propose to make a road version of the Lola T70 MkIII, to be delivered in three months just for the Racing Car Show in London in January 1969. But this is another story.

The Dominique III was initially painted in British racing green and then in white. Dominique was the first name of the bride of the buyer and the number three referred to the third car designed by Franco Sbarro, the first two being Filipinetti and the Filipinetti II.
