Mitsubishi FTO GP Version R '99
Mitsubishi FTO GP Version R '99.jpg
More than two decades after Mitsubishi introduced its popular Galant FTO in 1971, the Japanese industrial giant revived the illustrious FTO nameplate with an all-new car in late 1994.

While the Galant FTO of the seventies featured an FR configuration, the new FTO, built on the Lancer and Mirage platform, sent all of the engine's power exclusively to its front wheels. This new FTO featured a short overall length, but wide body, so much that it was classified as a Japanese Class 3, quite rare for an FF sports coupe at that time.

Three distinctive engines were available for the FTO, the 4G93, a 1.8-liter SOHC inline-4; the 6A12, a 2.0-liter DOHC V6 and a more powerful version of the 6A12 engine that boasted Mitsubishi's MIVEC variable valve-timing system that pumped out a full 197 HP and 147.5 ft-lb of torque.

In addition to a traditional 5-speed manual gearbox, the car was also available with an innovative 4-speed automatic transmission with an INVECS-II sports driving mode. The FTO's unique and swoopy styling, along with superior driving dynamics and excellent automatic transmission, won over many sports car fans and was named Japan's Car of The Year in 1994.

Production for the FTO ended in 2000 as sports cars lost their allure in the Japan market.

Opel Astra X-Treme '01
Opel Astra X-Treme '01.jpg
What you see before you is the most extreme automobile that Opel has designed to day and will very probably be the most extreme Opel ever. It's name is therefore very fitting for this 444 horsepower V8 beast based on the DTM-Astras.

The metamorphosis from racer to road car can be studied in detail on the restyled and more harmonious outer skin, which was the work of body designer Ulli Hochmuth. Instead of the DTM cars, double-wing front spoiler, the X-Treme has an integrated single-section version flush with the body. Similar modifications have been made to the rear end of the Astra X-Treme. The tail, with its built-in diffusor, is smoother and has a restyled spoiler. Similar rounding-off work has been performed at the body panel joints, the outside mirrors and the side panels, while the two twin ex-haust tailpipes add symmetry and visual balance. "The aerodynamics are still as effec-tive as they ought to be on a car in this performance category", Martin Smith empha-sizes, "but they were not the same governing factor to the styling as on the DTM racing car".

In order to give the car an ideally positioned center of gravity, the four-liter V8 engine in the X-Treme is located behind the front axle, as in the DTM racing version; the driver and front passenger seats have been moved back to accommodate. The engine, with four valves per cylinder, delivers its vast reserves of power to the rear wheels by way of a carbon-fiber reinforced clutch, a sequential-shift six-speed, transaxle gearbox and a mechanical-action limited-slip differential.

The engine, with its dry sump lubrication, doesn’t have to withstand thousands of prac-tice and race miles without any attention; as a result it is allowed to run up to a maxi-mum speed 850 revolutions a minute higher than its competition counterpart, yet it develops a maximum power output only 18 horsepower lower, namely 444 hp at 7350 rpm.

TMG Yaris WRC Prototype '15
TMG Yaris WRC '15.jpg
A full 18 years after Toyota discontinued its participation in the WRC, the Japanese automaker is looking to make a comeback with this battle-ready Yaris. Plans are currently set to see the pumped-up subcompact make its competition debut in 2017, with development now proceeding under the guidance of Cologne-based motor racing team Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG). Previously known as Toyota Team Europe, TMG is responsible for garnering each of the marque’s titles in this highest form of rally racing.

To prepare the Yaris for some of the harshest conditions in all of modern motorsports, TMG is going full hog. According to a press release, the “chassis has been formed using advanced simulation, testing and production techniques.” Overall, the dimensions are similar to the production road-going Yaris, but include a shortened wheelbase for crisper turn-in. The fenders are flared-out to encompass a bigger wheel and tire package, yielding a wider track for enhanced grip.

The body is made up of typical WRC components, with composite panels, large heat vents in the hood, a roof-mounted scoop to provide the cabin with fresh air, and downforce-generators consisting of a reworked front bumper and a large rear spoiler on the hatch.

Transformed from high-efficiency commuter to fire-breathing world eater, the Yaris WRC is equipped with a turbocharged, direct injection, 1.6-liter four-banger that spits out well over 300 horsepower and 309 pound-feet of torque at 6,000 rpm. Maximum boost pressure is 2.5 bar (36.3 psi), while redline is set at 8,500 rpm.

Making the AWD connection is a six-speed sequential gearbox and ZF Sachs clutch. Dropping the anchor are 300 mm (11.8-inch) disc brakes for gravel duty, and 355 mm (14-inch) rotors for tarmac. The size difference is reflective of the different wheels in play for each surface type.

Onuk Sazan '09
Onuk Sazan '09.jpg
A Turkish supercar is not the first thing you think of in our world of exclusive sports cars. Turkey is more a place of holidays and experiencing the unique history of the European/Asian country bridging Europe, Asia and the Middle East. However, the Onuk Sazan is not the first supercar made on Turkish soil.

The semi-supercar is an in-house designed ‘Mosler’-type, street-legal racing car. So no ordinary supercar, but developed with a race heritage and the possibility to drive it in any GT4-racing class. The legacy goes back to 1996 when Dr Ekber Onuk lost his son Kaan during a tragic car accident. His son studied Aeronautics and Astronautic Engineering at that time. In remembrance to his son he included the nickname of his son – used among his fellow students – as a trademark and signature of the car itself. The Sazan was born.

The vehicle itself is based around in-house design and external parts from donor vehicles. The mid-engine rear-wheel driver prototype packs a Chevrolet Corvette LS7 engine producing up to 515 hp and 635Nm at 4800rpm. The gearbox is a six-speed XTRAC 6012. Concerning the power to weight ratio the numbers are excellent.

The car has an empty weight of only 960kg. The low weight is realized by implementing a composite chassis and body developed in close cooperation with Turkish aerospace. The vehicle has a removable roof tooled from composite materials. By removing the roof you have created a targa setup.

The design and development of the Sazan was influenced by one car; the McLaren F1. “The greatest car ever built”, says Mr. Onuk. “It changed the technical level and was an important milestone in sportscar design. It definitely set new rules in the business.” The Sazan shares some of the lines of the UK supercar and its front air intakes. But that’s really it. The design is hardly anything you may have seen before. The beauty of the vehicle is for you to decide.

Caterham 21 2.0 '94
Caterham 21 2.0 '94.JPG
The Caterham 21 is a two-seat roadster designed and hand built by Caterham Cars in the 1990s. It was based on the mechanicals of the Caterham 7 and was intended to be a more practical version of that car with more conventional sports car styling.

Being almost mechanically identical to the Caterham 7, the 21 was set apart by the design of the body. Inspiration was drawn from the design of the Lotus Eleven, and the result was a curved, low-slung shape. The styling was universally well-received. The car did not have wind-up windows and its door sills were high and wide, which drew some criticism from contemporary reviewers regarding the car's practicality. Because of extra strengthening in the sills and at the front end, the chassis was 150% as rigid as that in the 7. Adjustments to the suspension gave a better ride as well.

Some components were taken from mainstream models (such as the rear light clusters from the Ford Mondeo saloon, door mirrors from the Rover 200, front indicators from the Suzuki Cappuccino, etc.) in addition to the Seven-based mechanical underpinnings.

The original car was produced for the 1994 British Motor Show to celebrate 21 years of Caterham Cars manufacture of the Lotus Seven. Styled by Iain Robertson and developed by a team under Jez Coates, the aim was to have a car that offered "the chance to experience Caterham motoring in a more practical format". The 21 was offered with a range of four-cylinder engines from 1.6 to 2.0 L, with 115 to 230 hp. Caterham originally intended to produce 200 cars per year, but fewer than 50 were actually made before production ceased. Several variations were created to participate in racing events.

Lexus IS 300 '03
Lexus IS 300 '03.jpg
The Lexus IS is a series of entry-level luxury cars sold by Lexus since 1998. The IS was introduced as an entry-level sport model slotted below the ES in the Lexus lineup (and outside of North America, the Lexus GS). The IS was originally sold under the Toyota Altezza nameplate in Japan (the word "altezza" is Italian for "highness") until the introduction of the Lexus brand and the second-generation Lexus IS design in 2006. The Altezza name is still used at times to refer to chromed car taillights like those fitted to the first-generation model, known as 'Altezza lights' or 'Lexus-style' lights.

In 2003 for the 2004 model year, the IS line received a minor facelift (designed by Hiroyuki Tada). On the exterior, was a new 11-spoke wheel design, new fog lights, and smoked surrounding trim for the headlights and taillights. On the interior, a new 2-position memory function was added for the driver seat, a maintenance indicator light, automatic drive-away door locking system, a new storage compartment on the dash (for models without the navigation system) and new trim highlights.

The IS 300 was introduced featuring a 3.0-liter 2JZ-GE inline-six engine.

BMW X5 Le Mans '00
BMW X5 Le Mans '00.jpg
The BMW X5 is a midsize luxury SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) (J-segment in Europe) produced by BMW. The first generation of the X5, with the chassis code E53, made its debut in 1999. It was BMW's first SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle), also known as "Four-by-Four" (4x4) in the UK, which featured 4WD all-wheel drive and was available with either manual or automatic transmission.

BMW branded the X5 as a Sport Activity Vehicle (SAV) rather than an SUV, to emphasize its on-road ability despite its size. Like the Lexus RX 300, the X5 heralded the shift from light truck-based body-on-frame SUVs to crossovers underpinned by unibody car platforms that would come to fruition in the late 2000s.

To brighten up the X5 launch BMW decided to built a very special version of the X5 showcasing the maximum ability of the car. Under the enlarged bonnet BMW have installed the 1999 Le Mans winning V12 engine. Now without the mandatory restrictors the engine is good for a healthy 700 hp, which is about twice as much as the most powerful X5 V8. The chassis was adjusted to handle this slight power increase.

This all sounds very good on paper but racing driver Hans-Joachim Stuck took the X5 Le Mans for a spin on one of the most demanding racing tracks in the world, the Nürburgring. He recorded a very impressive lap time of 7.49,92 minutes, that is over 25 seconds faster than a Z8.

Nice cars. Unfortunately what you said is true, there are so many "old" car manufacturers I'd like to see in a game. Just to mention a few: ATS, Serenissima, Bitter, Talbot. :geek:
