Ferrari 250 GTO

Image

One of the last cars, you could drive to a track, win a race and drive back home afterwards. A true legend. All the people who worked on that car have become legends themselves, Giotto Bizzarrini, Sergio Scaglietti, Mauro Forghieri, Phil Hill (driver) and off course Enzo Ferrari himself.

One of the famous owners who actually drives one in Historic Racing events is Nick Mason (Drummer Pink Floyd)
In October 2013 a 250 GTO was sold for a mindblowing $52,000,000 :eeek:

There is also the Jaguar D-type, which lead the way to the beautiful E-type

The D-type went on to win alot of endurance races, like Le Mans in 1955 to 1957

With the Shelby Daytona, Shelby became the first American constructor to win a title on the international scene at the FIA World Sportscar Championship in 1965. It was designed to beat Ferrari at the Le Mans 24h and it happened in 1964.

I also think one of the smallest and most unlikely rally cars should also be in here, the 1964 Mini Cooper S Works rally car that toke the rally seen by storm, with its small size, light weight and revolutionary suspension it won alot of rally races, and beat the bigger and heavier cars ;)

Ford GT40 dominated Le Mans 24h races from 1966 to 1969.
The Mk IV GT40, which won the race in 1967, remains, to this day, the only car designed and built entirely in the United States to claim an overall win at Le Mans.
MK I - 1st in 1968; 1st, 3rd and 6th in 1969.
Image
MK II - first 3 places in 1966.
Image
MK III - road car, only 7 were built.
Image
MK IV - 1st and 4th in 1967.

The Bentley Boys were a group of wealthy British motorists who drove Bentley sports cars to victory in the 1920s and kept the marque's reputation for high performance alive. In 1925, as the marque foundered, Bentley Boy Woolf Barnato bought the company, leading to the creation of the famous supercharged Bentley Blower car.
