Sorry for the delayed reply but this has been a big problem for HostGator (my provider) it has affected many phpBB sites and was to do with the server cache at HostGator.

At first they refused to admit the problem but as more and more people complained they relented, it should now be fixed but you may need to do a hard reset Ctrl+F5.

Thanks for all the helpful feedback.

Still weird it takes convincing to make them admit it is their fault. How many will have gone over their stuff to see if it was another problem.

The workaround so far for me was to use the `unread post` option under Forum.

Glad it has been resolved now.

Yes everything should be back to normal now if not hit Ctrl+F5 once or twice and that should do it. ;)

Apparently the rumor is that someone at HostGator thought it would be a good idea to increase the server cache refresh time to put less strain on the server, unfortunately they increased it from a few seconds to a few hours by mistake

That was why the forum was still showing old unread posts as it was still loading the old data
This is just a minor inconvenience on a forum but some people running business websites have lost a lot of money over this and are shouting for compensation. :o

If anyone is still having problems post here.

I work as IT specialist and I am seen many strange problems in different areas. I will never hide my own mistakes or try to put them to the others fault. (seen a many cases) When some of our provider has probelms, I like when they told fairly what was happened - even then when it's very stupid thing. I know that they will do everything that same kind of errors don't occur again. If I got something generic words where the problem is not told me exacltly and technically, then I think that they don't take us seriously or they are so low level and don't understand what are doing...

I think that I am sometimes hard customer because I am been on the other side also over ten years. But still, I like honest people.

That is why they start with denying responsibility. To avoid legal claims.
From my perspective they are only making it worse by doing that.
As people spend time and money now to trace what caused the troubles. Professionals can claim that time.

Better be straight forward and deal with it.

BTW, i still get an old page when i load the forum. Only after logging in i get the actual posts.

On the most part i think everything is back to normal, hitting Ctrl+F5 once or twice to clear your cache should help.

I think they decided to acknowledge something was wrong when people started saying they would leave HostGator and look for another provider (including me)

Just hope they have learned a lesson and don't mess with it again.
