what Atari gave us was named TDU2,but the name and the general layout of the landscape is the only thing that relates to TDU,everything else is just garbage thrown in to make the game sellable knowing the most important parts were missing.

if there is a TDU3 i wont buy it
I would pre-order a TDU3. For all the bitching and moaning I hear about TDU2, I have over 5000 hours in the game, 5508 according to steam. This game is in the realm of solitaire and free cell. Whatever flaws notwithstanding, one of the best games of all time.
How many hours have you played? And what percentage of purchased games have you played more? Personally, I have a shitload of games barely played, and a few that I actually got my money's worth from. TDU2 tops that list.
Haha, finally someone who has similar play time numbers like me. :loll:
Haven't played a lot lately though.

TDU2 is better in a lot of ways, despite the poorly organized dev team. More roads, more diversity in roads, a new Island, weather, day/night cycles etcetera, are all community requests. The original team from TDU1 consisted of about 300 people. TDU2 was made with only 80. And some less talented as the original crew. Some key developers from TDU1 are now at Ivory Tower. One of the reasons why i look out for that game "The Crew".
But the main reason Eden could not go full steam on TDU2 development was the role of Atari. Without a good constructive backer a project of this magnitude is doomed. Internal squabbles between companies and within the team are also not helpful. Not to mention the lack of support and follow up and a symbolic strike to top it off. Whatever happens behind the screens should stay there. Like a wise Bunny once said: "What happens in the Grotto, stays in the Grotto".

Biggest flaw in TDU2 is the handling and controls. They were no improvement over TDU1 and have put many players off. This is more noticeable for Wheel users as the game plays reasonable with a controller. This dumbing down was directly related to an Atari executive who wanted a more simplified handling, so "everybody" could drive it. Probably referring to his own incompetent driving skills

Most important issue with Eden games, like mentioned a few times here, is the attitude towards the community. Reluctant to fix bugs, listen to player feedback and openly insult focus groups are not the way to build a good relationship with the gamers. And in the end they are the customers who pay for their expenses.

Taking everything in consideration, i still think David Nadal can make a very good TDU3 with a new Eden Team. After all they produced TDU1 without Atari interference and that game was more polished than part 2. It would also be the ultimate retaliation of Eden.

Interesting bit of news, I do indeed hope they make a TDU3. But they would need to buy the rights back first.

Regarding 'The Crew', they really shouldn't be calling it "the real TDU2". It doesn't look anything like a TDU game. I bet it will have more in common with Driver 3 than TDU. The Crew looks more like a FATF game -meets Driver- with the always online multiplayer aspects of TDU incorporated into the gameplay. My suggestion to them would be, rather than trying to slap a label on something that doesn't necessarily fit, it would be better for The Crew to try and be it's own thing, something new, something different.

Eden games developing TDU3 themselves, without interference from others..

Remember TDU1...

Could be fun.

So who has the rights to the TDU franchise now? Atari?

Silence before the storm...hopefully.

IMO then never seriously intended to sell the TDU franchise to outsiders. If Eden Games can acquire the rights to it, they have a golden deal.
It also would explain why a restart is in place. With a strong brand name behind a project it is more easy to find new backers.

My theory is that Eden backed out of TDU2 and pretended to close so that Atari would go out of business due to a massive profit drop. That way, Eden could come back from "the dead" and make a better game! Eden sabotaged Atari in order to get the rights to themselves and make a better game

Eden Games were terminated by Atari. They didn't have a choice in that. One of the reasons why Eden was not motivated to do any more work. As soon® as Atari decided to sell off all in-house developers, starting with Cryptic and turned the focus on mobile devices.

Sabotage could be true... :eeek:
If you think about the way the game was patched and the time it took to fix some simple bugs, you can not escape from the impression that something seriously weird was going on. Especially as we now know that the "easy" bugs only take a few hours to fix by a single person, once you know where to look for them.

In any way did the fallout between the two companies not help Atari to get out of the red figures.
Like a wise old Atari Executive once said: "We do an excellent job by shooting ourselves in the foot".

Atari asking for more time;

Law360, New York (August 07, 2013, 3:34 PM ET) -- Atari Inc. on Tuesday asked a New York bankruptcy judge to give the company another 60 days...
If the request is granted, Atari will have until October 18 to file a plan without the threat of rival plans being submitted.
...Atari says that its request for an extension is not intended to maintain leverage over creditors.

.is that atari time?
