My english teacher went down hard on me, carpet bombing my essays with red lines and exclamation marks, and later telling me that every time i wrote a slang word (aka. wordcrime) it was the same as giving her the finger in her opinion (she was a translator besides being a english teacher) 
since then i have not really used those or committed any wordcrimes, and my english have gotten a lot better because of it
