my grandson came over wanting help with a school project making a model of the solar system. I went and bought some Styrofoam balls and dowels, and some watercolor paint.
I wanted to know the layout of the planets as current as I could get so I Googled "current position of planets" and came back with http://www.solarsystemscope.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. this is the coolest thing ever, not only is everything in HD, its looks current to the minute.
sometimes the internet and technology surprises me with cool stuff like this.
The Space Thread
Even though the orbits aren't really that circular, that's an awesome site! That's a really cool way to see the orbital differences between planets of different masses, and how the Sun's gravity affects the angular velocity! Thanks for sharing!Karu62 wrote:my grandson came over wanting help with a school project making a model of the solar system. Very nice link, Karu. It even looks better than some commercially available Astronomical software, lol

So I watched a documentary about alien planets and some of them really caught my atention, while I was lookin' for information about one of them I found this website http://www.openexoplanetcatalogue.com/systems.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; A catalog of every exoplanet currently discovered.
This is the planet I was interested http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gliese_436_b" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thought I would add this link here. It's not just about space but It gives you some idea of the scale of everything including space that we are aware of now.
