But who will drive the Mclaren car then ?

Surely they can't just sent out a rookie in a 2017 car on the tiny streets of Monaco or they'll be picking up Mclaren bits for days.

I think Jenson still is the official reserve driver and still has a contract at McLaren. Besides, Monaco is always special and the underpowered Honda will be less of a factor there than anywhere else.

More news about who will drive will be announced soon :D

Lol Jenson Button better be in shape then the new car will be the end of him, you saw how Rosberg neck so much smaller since he quit Formula 1 it is insane how much neck muscles they need for the need cars.

But i would love nothing more than to see Button race again he remains the driver i liked the much on the grid, it was just painful to see how drive a lawnmower engine in Formula 1 the last 3 years, but hopefully Mclaren and the wise arses at Honda can figure it out, Honda really has to much proud it is hurting their performance that they would not get help making the engine.

But this is Honda's last shot lets hope Mclaren can get some Ferrari pace soon and join the fight against the evil Mercedes AMG's :P

Jenson Button was DQ for an Iron Man event recently for speeding on his bike. Yes, really
So he still likes to go fast. And his physical condition will be fine as well. But maybe McLaren wants to test someone else.

In Bahrain everything is different. Even the paddock entrance

Edit: Button has been confirmed by McLaren for the Monaco GP. Kudos to Button.

Button has been confirmed by McLaren for the Monaco GP. Kudos to Button.
McLaren has confirmed that 2009 World Champion Jenson Button will return to a Formula 1 race seat for next month's Monaco Grand Prix, in place of the Indianapolis 500-bound Fernando Alonso.
Button, 37, stepped back from a Formula 1 race seat for 2017, enabling Stoffel Vandoorne to debut, though remained contracted to McLaren as an ambassador.
"I'm thrilled to be making a one-off return to Formula 1 racing, and I couldn't think of a better place to make that return than my adopted home Grand Prix: Monaco," said Button.

"I've won the race before, in 2009, and it's one of my all-time favourite racetracks.

"It's a tricky street circuit on which a good driver can really make a difference – and, although the McLaren-Honda MCL32 hasn't begun the season well, I think it may be more suited to Monaco than to the faster circuits that Fernando and Stoffel have raced it on so far this season.

Ferrari Boss Marcchione has put on the pressure on Kimi Raikkonen. He was summoned to have a "talk" with the management.
Kimi has not been performing 100%, especially compared to Vettel. But do they really get the same material? I don't think so.
In addition to that, Kimi's China race was ruined by a very bad pit strategy, when ferrari left him out on old tires way too long, destroying any chance of a good result.

And today in Bahrain, Kimi's engine blows up.... Coincidence? At Ferrari coincidence is a rarity.
So he must watch his steps for the rest of this season. Might be his last at the Scuderia.

P2 was a bit more eventful when Sainz fire extinguisher went off during driving :eeek: :angry-extinguishflame:
No fire to see, but not a very nice thing to happen, when you try to focus on setting a fast lap.

Bottas his T wing broke off and damaged Max undertray later during practice. Max lost most of the session due to repairs.

IMO they should get rid of these things pronto. Bottas did not lose any speed without it.
Maybe Charly Whiting can just forbid them.

P3 showed a bit surprising result as Max took the lead in the end. Lewis tried, was fastest in sector 1 and 2, but overdid 3. It appears that strong wind and especially the changing wind direction fooled a lot of drivers. Dealing with changing coditions is one of Max´ strong points.

Grosjean took a punch on the nose of the HAAS, when he spun out. At the same spot where lots of drivers went massive sideways.

Setting up the car right for qualifying later, will be key here.

Qualifying went reasonably predictable with Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull topping the ranks. Bottas grabbed the pole with just 23/1000 of a second. His first pole of his career. Maybe Hamilton was a bit tense, trying to break Senna's Pole record. Ricciardo split both Ferraris with Raikkonen complaining about understeer.

Italian Gazette Della Sport is already writing him off. But that might be too soon®

With the wind dropping the conditions at Sakhir were more predictable than the midday sessions.

Good result for Hulkenberg. The whole Renault team was performing well with Palmer in the top 10 as well.
Massa shows that an "old" man can still learn a young dog a trick or two. Stroll dissappointing in Q2.
That dude needs to learn to be more relaxed behind the wheel. Makes way to many moves, even going straight.
This upsets the balance of the car and costs time.

Another Victory for Vettel, who did an excellent job, keeping the Mercedes drivers behind him. Hamilton got a 5 sec penalty for blocking Ricciardo in the pitlane. Silly mistake and costly in the end. Bottas had to deal with oversteer and could not capitalize on his maiden Pole.

Max followed Vettel's strategy but had a massive brake faillure, when the rear did not brake at all. Scary stuff, but thanks to the massive run off areas on the Tilke designed Sakhir Circuit, it only ended in some material damage.

Vandoorne could not even start the race and Alonso had to retire in the closing stages, showing McLaren is still struggling massively.

Massa did a good job in 6th, with his team mate again not watching the mirrors very well.

The top 10 finished in the same lap as the winner. But the difference in race pace between the top teams and the rest is still too big.
