During the drivers press conference, Max also stated he avoided contact with Kimi. Just like Mario Andretti suggested earlier this week.
But it is probably just a coincidence that former F1 World Champions like Andretti, Lauda, Villeneuve, Rosberg and Hill as well as Indy500 winner Arie Luyendyk all think this strict implementation of the rules, in a race where nobody else was punished for exceeding track limits, is just BS and it was a brilliant move on Raikkonen.

Anyway, good analysis in that video.

Both Mika Salo and Charlie Whiting think Verstappen should apologise to Garry Connely. Most comments on these statements turn it around and say the FIA should apologise for ruining another race for the fans. As Connely has been called an idiot as well by Hamilton last year after the Mercedes 2016 Japan incident, he might just be called what he is.
Besides, forcing someone to make an apology never leads to a sincere regret anyway.

In addition to that, Max already stated he used the wrong words to describe his feelings in the heat of the moment. That might be as much as an apology as they will get from him.

Edit, Max used his instagram to make an apology. For language used.

On to Mexico 8-)

Mexico is at a high altitude and despite maximum wing settings, downforce is low. Grip was not there either, so lots of spinning cars or drivers who ran out of track and talent. Ocon must have been really happpy with a local hero who crashed his Force India into the barriers.

Always a good atmosphere in Mexico. Despite recent events most people have shaken that off. (earthquakes etc)

Ricciardo Grim Fandago´d his helmet, scary stuff

Bernie Ecclestone causes another stir.

Image

Ferrari has been favored, like many already thought.
This even might have juridical consequences. Others might want to know how, where and when these favors have been applied.

https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/eccl ... al-971625/
Extra Ferrari assistance

Ecclestone also revealed that there were moves when he ran F1 with Max Mosley to give Ferrari special assistance from on high.

"Helping Ferrari has always been the smartest thing to do,” he said. “And it always has always been done through the technical regulations.

“Teams are important for the F1, but Ferrari is the most. That's why over the years, many things have been done that have helped Maranello win. "
Maybe it is a good thing for the sport if anybody with a similar attitude towards favoritism leaves right now. Including Whiting, Connely CS. :twocents-02cents:

Vettel pulled a great lap out of his high hat at the last moment. But Max really dominated this qualifying.
With his 50th pole, Vettel has given himself the best position to win the race tomorrow. And to keep the Championship open.
Merceds could not really follow the Red Bull and Ferrari and were half a second off the pace.

Maybe a bit boring race, but Max showed who was fastest this weekend. Great controlled win.
Lewis 4th time World Champion, congratz. Despite a low blow from Vettel. That looked like avoidable contact. :naughty:

When one of the top guns has to do a run from the back of the field, it always leads to some good racing. Vettel came back strongly, but Lewis struggled a bit, due to the Mercedes critical downforce when driving behind another car or some damage on the car itself. Maybe both. But that fight with Alonso was just epic.

In the end Vettel could not get to 2nd place and lost the championship.

Ferrari came back strong this season.
Next year will be even better, with Ferrari, Mercedes, Red Bull and Mclaren battling it out. That will be good.

The Mexicans made a great party and the track was completely sold out. That is how it should be. Great fans and great atmosphere.

But Lewis, who are the best fans in the World?
Too many Renault engines blew up this weekend. Hartley had two engine fails. But he had his own way of extinguishing that fire
:angry-extinguishflame:

"I was so far in front I was like let's cut the corner so we get a five-second penalty and make it interesting"
Max Verstappen
:loll:

He has to be careful with bullying the Stewards though. Especially as one appears to have a grudge.
But this racewin was the best answer to the lame USGP penalties, that robbed him from a well deserved podium there.

Lewis 4th time World Champion brings him on par with Vettel. Only Fangio (5) and Schumacher (7) won more titles.
And unlike Rosberg, Hamilton will stay to defend his title. He can bring more and that is good to hear.

If all goes well, next season will be a much closer fight with more cars and drivers involved.
Mercedes will be there, so will be Ferrari, but Red Bull has closed the gap massively and the Renault engine seems to have a little kick now as well. A lot has been done with engine mapping in that regard.
In addition to the current top 3, i do expect Alonso to be there with the McLaren. They have already proven to have a good chassis and especially the fights between Red Bull and Mclaren will become interesting. And do not count out Renault itself. They are a works team and have bought in some knowledge from other teams by hiring a FIA techical official. They might close the gap next year quickly as well.

So maybe we will see a proper World Championship next season. Unpredictable and exciting.

Formula 1 has revealed its plans for a new engine formula from 2021.

The proposals are aimed at reducing costs, "improving the sound", increasing competitiveness between teams and maintaining road relevance.

The plan is to retain a 1.6-litre V6 turbo hybrid but to remove one of the two ways currently used to generate hybrid power.

Engines will run at a higher speed and the drivers will have greater control over hybrid energy deployment.

The key proposals, which are an attempt to improve the racing, were presented to teams by governing body the FIA and new F1 owners Liberty Media at a meeting in Paris on Tuesday.

The proposals are:

  • a 1.6-litre V6 turbo hybrid.
  • Engines running 3,000rpm faster to improve sound.
  • The removal of the MGU-H, the part of the hybrid system that recovers energy from the turbo and which is largely responsible for muting the sound made by the current engines.
  • A more powerful MGU-K - which recovers energy from the rear axle - to make up the loss in hybrid energy from the MGU-H and with the option for a driver to save up energy over a number of laps to add a tactical element to the racing.
  • A single turbo with constraints on dimensions and weight.
  • Standard battery and control electronics.
  • Research into tightening up fuel regulations
Source; BBC

Most of these propositions look very good to me. Especially the removal of the MGU-H, the component that caused headaches for Honda and Renault, is totally obsolete for road car development, causes overheating issues and it makes engines twice as expensive as they could be.

The introduction of standardized parts can also be cost saving and makes the life of the design and development engineers of the chassis a lot easier. It will also make it more easy to switch engine brands.

Only thing i do not like is the more fuel saving proposal.
It is Formula racing, not endurance racing. Drivers should be able to go flatout start to finish. Leave the management to the suits.

Only management issue they want to add i do like, is the driver controlled MGU-K (KERS or Kinetic Energy Recovery System). This will allow the driver to use the electric boost at will.
Right now everything goes with engine mapping. Optimizing with computers when and where to add the electrical power.
Leaving that in the hands of the drivers is a good idea.

In case Ross Brawn reads this article; ditch the ceramic microphones. The Force India cars sounded like buzzing hornets. :(
