A "new" player on the consoles market that will use linux based SteamOS for games.
Don't know about the controller, but this project can become huge.

I've been keeping an eye on this as well and it looks interesting but I've got to say I hate that controller.

I want to try it first before i can give an opinion. But it looks kinda weird. Definitely something to get used to.
They will probably make it compatible with other controllers, wheels etc, so i don't think that will hold it back.
If the Steam Box will be capable of taking on the big 2 has to be seen. But it looks very promising. Games on Steam will be more affordable for sure.
The new SteamOS is also definitely worth a try. I will build a dedicated PC for it, have some spare parts laying around. Just to see what happens.
Gaming without windows interfering.....

Been thinking of this too, have a pc laying around, hooked up to my tv. Barely use it, so wouldn't be a big deal to slap on another OS.

The "official" Steam Box will be equipped with a Core i7 and GTX780.
That is some serious horsepower, even more than the PS4 and XboxOne.
It seems that Steam will take on the big ones. I like that attitude. And with their experience in game distribution and support they might have a winner here.

Sounds awesome the only thing that would put me off are those funny looking controllers, but as a PC player anything other than a keyboard and mouse looks weird

They made a few prototypes before ending up with that design. I really want to try them first before i can give a verdict.
You can probably hook up other controllers as well.

IFixit has torn down the Steam Box

Looks like a lot of power in a small box. Much more powerful than the PS4 and XboxOne.
With a lot of games becoming available through SteamOS this might be interesting.
