Well, I've never liked when a developer announces their DLC cars before the game even releases (I'm looking at you, The Crew), but wow I think I'm gonna have to buy the season pass for this one!

Sometimes developers start with DLC, while they are finishing the core game at the same time. They do this to have DLC ready at launch or shortly after.
Producers give them the order to stop development and finalize what they have at some point.
If they don't do that, developers keep developing.
The Crew took 1 year to finalize. At the same time other developments were taking place. Fergus was planning 2 years ahead for The Crew.
I do not think this will be the case with pCars2. It is more about getting more licenses for car brands and tracks. These can be added after release.
If it keeps the development studios alive and also the program, it is not necessarily a bad thing to have DLC.
Only "DLC" i do not like, is if content is deliberately withhold to milk a franchise. Certain publishers come to mind...
Like locked content on a disc you bought. That feels always like a rip-off.
During the release of The Crew, they were still in negotiation with car manufacturers for licenses. This might be the case with pCars2 as well.
So far the car list does not disappoint me

I certainly agree with you that DLC is important, and I realize that most developers start working on DLC well before the game releases. But I just think it's a bad idea for them to start advertising their DLC program too far ahead of release. Like with The Crew, they put out a season pass trailer that showed all of the future DLC cars (which they were clearly done developing), but the trailer came out before the game released. That felt to me like they were just trying to sell us more in the game before we had even purchased the game!
But usually, SMS is good with marketing their DLC. They learned from their mistake of publicly stating that they were starting development of PCars 2 before totally fixing the first game. I get that's how it works in every studio, but sometimes being too transparent and honest can be a bad thing!

Well, it looks like Slightly Mad Studios has released an (almost) complete car list, which makes my job a lot easier!
Although, they are leaving out some of the cars they haven't announced yet, like Lamborghini and some Ferraris.

As always with huge car lists like that, you always focus on what is NOT on there, like Group B Rallye Cars or Pikes Peak Specials.
But you will be able to recreate a very epic Le Mans 24 Hour race, throughout the History. Very nice.
Dodge Viper is missing as well. Probably a few more. They should at least try to get all the important LM winners.
The historic Lotus line-up is just epic and screams for some competition form the same era's.
I do not have an issue with their Formula A solution for F1 cars, as a license is too expensive. Unfortunately that will leave the F1 games to Codies, they are fun but indirect steering and not really aimed at more serious drivers with wheels and cockpits as SMS is with pCars.
I will try to finish my racing rig this Month. I really need some serious speed
