I once had an Atari 2600 console. That was a long time ago. But now it appears Atari will be back. With a new console...
The company is profitable again under new management. Mainly due to licensing.
Taking the fight to Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft is a bald move.
PS It will have "PC Hardware".

I got an email from them about this last week then forgot about it.
I also used to have an Atari 2600 console it was way ahead of its time in those days and probably started the console revolution but it is going to have to be very good to take on the big boys these days.

It looks a bit like the old 2600. Must be on purpose. No specs yet, but it must be PC like. And with a custom Android based OS, you can run a lot of games.
According to some rumors, this project will be financed through crowdfunding.

The Atari VCS will hit the market for pre-orders, starting 30 May at 199$ (up to 300$, depending on config)
It will have AMD hardware (Raven Ridge APU). Delivery will start one Year later.

Development goes rather slow IMO and by the time of release the hardware might be old. Even if 4K/60fps is advertized.
But than again, they do enter the market agressively and focus on their own game development. I will continue to follow development.

Maybe i will be proven wrong but i just don't think it is enought of a game changer to compete in the market it is putting its self in.
