I only watched the highlight version of the race on Sky F1, it was so much nicer than the long and boring race, i think i'll do that in the future as well as the normal race can be so boring AF that you nearly fall asleep or start doing other things and mis out on the good bits.

It is official now, talks are in place to bring Formula 1 back to The Netherlands. :woot:

https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/f1-b ... ce-963828/?

They look for a city race, but IMO they should bring back Zandvoort to the calender. It is a real racetrack, designed by Hugenholtz, who also created Suzuka, Zolder, Jarama and the stadium section of the Hockenheim ring. Last GP was won by Niki Lauda.

But i do understand the philosophy to create festival style events.
IMO a mix can be done. A similar event as was held in London can be done in Amsterdam. And the real race in the Zandvoort dunes.

It will be cool to have a GP back over here. It has been way too long. Max makes this possible.

:2thumbsup:

Despite earlier rumors, Pierre Gasly will drive for the Super Formula Championship in Japan.
Le Mans winner Brendon Hartley (NZ) will take his place at Scuderia Toro Rosso during the US GP in Austin, Texas.

Gasly can win the championship in his Honda powered Super Formula. So there is a lot at stake there. And Gasly has already secured his spot in F1 with a decent performance until now. Even if Franz Tost has said that the line up for next season is completely open.

I have not seen the name of Hartley on anyones list as a possible replacement. Long time it was suggested that one of the Indycar drivers would take Gasly's place, in case he decided to drive in Japan.

Gasly does take a small risk here, as Hartley might perform well and claim a spot in Formula 1. On the other hand, that will most likely be the end of Kvyatt at Toro Rosso. With the Russian driving the last couple of races as replacement for Sainz, Toro Rosso has a good bench-marker for both Gasly and Hartley. Kvyatt has always been a very fast driver, but his decisions on the track during races lack insight and he is rancorous.

This means the return of New Zealand as supplier of an F1 driver

P1 was interesting for lots of reasons.

First there was the expected announcement of Fernando Alonso. He will stay at McLaren.
But also Max Verstappen who extended his contract at Red Bull Racing untill 2020. He will get the chance to build a team around him. That will only leave place for a second driver. What will Ricciardo make of that? Or are the rumors about a 2019 Ferrari deal for him true?
Kvyatt must feel like a Russian Doll now. In P1 Galeal drove his car and it appears that this race might be his last for Toro Rosso.
Brandon Hartley did very well at Toro Rosso and could keep up with the Renaults. Great car control and good move from Helmut Marko to bring him back to RBR.

Carlos Sainz already made a statement by being on the same pace as Hulkenberg from the start. Even outpacing him in P1. It will be a massive boost for Renault to have two drivers who can push each other. Hulkenberg needs to stay sharp with the Spanish Toreador (Bull Killer ;) ) breathing in his neck.

Massa told the press that no new negotiations have taken place with Williams and this time his retirement from F1 appears to be permanent.
That will leave F1 without a Brazilian driver next year.

P1 took largely place on a drying track.

P2 on a dry track and what a great circuit it is. One of Hermann Tilke's best designs and a blast with these new grippy F1 cars.

It was Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari who are close, but Hamilton was again setting the pace. A man on a mission?

Another qualifying, another pole for Lewis. Nr 72 and probably not his last. He gives himself the best possible position to win the race on Sunday. But eager Vettel is next to him on the grid. And Ferrari's in the first corner have a tendency to be just a little wider than they really are lately. Must be a compensating thing :P
Raikkonen and Ricciardo had the exact same time, but Ricciardo set it first, so he is 4th and Kimi 5th.

Red Bull has caught up with Ferrari and Renault has given all their 3 teams 1 new engine. This also means that grid penalties are given. Max gets 15 places. They picked Austin to take the penalties, as it is a good place to overtake and it suits the Red Bull well.

Pierre Gasly must be annoyed, as the races in Suzuka were cancelled due to heavy weather conditions. His replacement Hartley did well during free practices by keeping up with Kvyatt. But in qualifying he came short.

That can not be said from Sainz, who outqualified Hulkenberg in their first encounter. Hulkenberg has to start from the back of the grid as well (engine change), so did not really bother to set a good time, but Sainz will see it as 1-0 for him.

Alonso managed to get his McLaren in the top 10, by driving a perfect lap in Q2, leaving Vandoorne 0.6 sec behind.

Ericsson outqualified Wehrlein for a change and Magnussen was more in the way than improving his own times. Stroll blocked Grosjean in a ridiculous manner. Both drivers were penalized for their track behavior. Stroll and Magnussen really need to use their mirrors better. It can lead to potential dangerous situations if they don't

What a race this was. It had everything in it.
Hamilton well deserved winner with a controlled race. Vettel got the edge at the start, but could not keep Lewis behind him.
In the end Vettel fought back to 2nd, doing max damage control. He is still in the race for the championship, but only mathematical.

Driver of the day was Max Verstappen, who got robbed at the end of a podium spot by the stewards. That Connely dude has to go. Makes one bad decision after the other. But it will not take away anything of that heroic drive.

Bad luck for Ricciardo with another Renault engine fail. He will have double trouble as he has to change the engine for next race in mexico, which will give him grid penalties.

Bottas really sunk through the ice here. He was driving in 2nd spot during this race, but Kimi, Seb and Max all managed to pass him. And Lewis drives the same car....

Next race in Mexico
