Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X FQ-400 '09
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X FQ-400 '09.jpg
The 4th generation platform Lancer Evolution was first announced at the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show as the "concept-X" concept car. Changing direction from the factory tuning car character of its past, it now targeted a premium sports market like the BMW M series and Audi S series.

The major difference from the 3 generations and a total of 12 types of Lancer Evolutions in the past, is the change of engine from the 4G63 to the new generation 4B11. Its all aluminum construction and rearward exhaust make it difficult to turn into a high powered turbo, but engineers at Mitsubishi have overcome this challenge. The transmission is offered in a TC-SST 6-speed DCT in addition to the standard 5-speed MT. It is possible to shift quickly using paddles behind the steering wheel. the base transmission was developed by Getrag, and was tuned carefully for endurance and stable performance.

The 4WD system has evolved into the S-AWC (Super All-Wheel Control) system, and it integrates the ACD (Active Center Differential) and Super AYC (Active Yaw Control), and even combines the ABS controls. With the addition of the ABS control, an even more effective control of drive force distribution has become possible. The ACD+Super AYC controls have been improved to be simpler, and a linear control characteristic has been achieved. Because of its emphasis for the "Premium" market, the quality of the interior, the ride quality and noise levels are much improved from previous models, and the controls that were heavy in the past have been brought to almost standard levels. The top grade FQ-400 has an engine rated 403 hp and 525 N·m, and a new aero kit that includes additional cooling intakes, vents, a larger air intake in the hood and ducts.

Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR '08
Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR '08.jpg
It was at the 2002 North American International Auto Show in Detroit when Dodge unveiled the ultimate American sports car, one that would rival even the daunting Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. The car was called the Viper ACR, "ACR" standing for "American Club Racer".

The ACR shared the same V-10 of the base car, the SRT10, which pumped out an astounding 600 HP and a mind-boggling 559.8 ft-lb of torque, but Dodge engineers saw room for improvement. They reduced the friction to the internal components inside the engine, as well as redesigned the intake and exhaust systems, making the power plant more responsive and rev smoother. Also, they reshaped much of the Viper's body panels, and added a giant adjustable rear wing to significantly increase downforce and keep the rear end stable.

Other aero enhancements were new front lip spoilers and canards. Measures to reduce weight were also undertaken, such as eliminating fog lights, utilizing lightweight wheels, and reducing the mass of various suspension components; which, by the way, was a full-adjustable racing spec system. The result was a car that weighed about 18 kg less than the base model. There was also a "Hardcore Package" that reduced weight by a further 18 kg.

With Tom Coronel at the wheel, the Viper ACR produced a lap time of 7 minutes 22.1 seconds at the Nürburgring in August 2008, setting the fastest lap time at that time for a production car, four seconds faster than that of the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 in June 2008.

Audi RS5 Coupe '13
Audi RS5 '13.jpg
The Audi A5 (internally designated Typ 8T) is a compact executive car produced by the German automobile manufacturer Audi since 2007. The A5 range comprises the coupé, cabriolet, and "Sportback" (a four-door liftback featuring a roof line with a steeply raked rear window with integrated trunk lid) versions of the fourth generation (B8) Audi A4 saloon and estate models.

Available in coupé body, the S5 and RS5 are high performances version of the A5. As quick as the S5 is, it struggles to look nearly as expensive or purpose-driven as the RS model. The chief exterior changes of the RS5 over the S5 model on the outside are concentrated up front where the RS5 gains a new single-frame grille with beveled upper corners along with the re-sculptured “wave” headlamps framed by narrow strips of LED daytime running lights, revised bumper and sharper edges on the hood. The subtly modified tail lamp crystals and the newly designed 19-inch forged aluminum wheels with 265/35-series tires or optional, 20-inch wheels with 275/30-series tires, round out the difference on the outside.

The RS5 is powered by the R8’s 4.2-liter aluminum V-8 producing 450 horsepower and 317.2 pound-feet of torque. The official 0-to-100 km/h time is 4.5 seconds, but times as low as 4 seconds have been recorded in ideal conditions. Power is channeled through a seven-speed, twin-clutch transmission and to all four wheels at a ratio of 40:60 front to rear. Like any other performance model, the RS5 comes equipped with Quattro all-wheel-drive system, seven-speed S tronic transmission with three different options: auto, comfort, and dynamic.

Prodrive P2 '06
Prodrive P2 '06.jpg
The Prodrive P2 is a prototype two-seater sports car designed, engineered and built by Prodrive at its Banbury and Warwick sites. The car is based on the platform of the Subaru R1 kei car and has a modified Subaru Impreza WRX STi engine along with many Prodrive systems originally designed for their World Championship and Sports Car Racing programmes. The car's styling was done by Peter Stevens, who also designed the McLaren F1. The car includes rally-inspired anti-lag to prevent turbo lag, as well as an active center and active rear differential that maximizes grip.

A fully working car has been built, and was tested on the TV motoring programme Top Gear — it had 345 hp, obtained a 0 - 100 km/h time of 3.8 seconds, a top speed of 280 km/h, and had a Power Lap of 1:24.3, beating such cars as the TVR Sagaris, Audi R8, BMW M5 and Aston Martin Vanquish. It also made Jeremy Clarkson appear to vomit after driving around a circle of cones extremely rapidly to demonstrate its computer-controlled differential system's anti-understeer capabilities.

The car's active rear differential automatically shifts torque to whichever of the rear wheels needs it most during manoeuvering, based on spin-slip sensor readings; this is a common rally-car technology rarely seen on road cars. Prodrive has claimed that the car could retail for around £40,000-£50,000, but has said there are no plans to put the car into production at present.

Peugeot 607 Feline '00
Peugeot 607 Feline '00.jpg
First seen at the 2000 Geneva Autoshow, the big cat inspired Peugeot 607 Feline was designed at the La Garenne Design Centre. Peugeot's original brief for the 607 Feline was to conceive a luxurious, racy roadster with some design elements borrowed from the 607 sedan, such as the front end and the rear light cluster.

The shell is carbon fibre, made in a vacuum from aircraft-type honeycombed panels. Linked to the axle assembly at the front, it covers the passenger compartment and body essentials, stopping just in front of the axis of the rear wheels.

Strictly a two-seater, this car is laid out with longitudinal power unit to the front and five-speed manual gearbox forward of the engine. The six-cylinder engine is a 2946 cc 60° V6 with output of 210 hp. It has variable timing at intake, four overhead camshafts and twenty-four valves. This mechanical layout produces little polar inertia and ensures a good weight distribution between the front and rear axles.

For access to the car interior, the doors slide almost entirely into the front wings. The windscreen also moves 50 cm on its wide frame between the passenger compartment and the bonnet while the rear bubble moves back 12.5 cm.

Ascari Ecosse Hartge 5.0 V8 '98
Ascari Ecosse Hartge 5.0 V8 '98.jpg
Named after legendary racing driver Alberto Ascari, Ascari Cars was founded in England in 1995. Talented engineer and designer Lee Noble drew the lines for what would become the first Ascari. Dubbed the FGT the mid-engined sports car was shown at all the major motor shows in Europe. It caught the eye of Dutch racing car driver Klaas Zwart. He commissioned the construction of a racing version of the FGT, which he campaigned in the British GT Championship.

Zwart eventually bought the entire company and pushed forward with the development of a proper Ascari road car. The FGT design formed the basis for the road car but there were some fundamental differences. What remained was the simple yet very efficient steel tubular spaceframe chassis. Following contemporary sports car design, the Ascari chassis sported double wishbone suspension on both ends.

Bigger changes were found in the engine bay where the original Detroit muscle was replaced by a BMW sourced V8 engine. Not satisfied with the stock performance, the V8s were sent to specialists Hartge for upgrades before being installed in the Ascari. Initially the BMW/Hartge unit displaced 4.4 litre and produced a healthy 300 hp. Shortly after the road car's launch a larger, 4.7 version litre became available which put out an additional 100 horses; the last three cars were produced with the Hartge 5.0 litre V8 engine with around 420 hp. The engine was mated to a ZF supplied five-speed gearbox.

The new Ascari was launched at the 1999 Earls Court Motor Show. It was dubbed Ecosse presumably because oil-man Zwart earned much of his wealth in Scotland. The ambitious newcomer to the already crowded market was priced at 89,000 Pounds, which was almost certainly less than each example cost Ascari to build. Despite the Ecosse's great styling, chassis and finish only a handful were ever sold. It is believed that only 17 examples were built several of which are reported to have been destroyed.

The Porsche 991 is the internal designation for the seventh generation Porsche 911 which was unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show on 15 September as the replacement for the 997. The 991 is an entirely new platform, only the third since the original 911 launched in 1963 (the 996 of 1999 was the second new platform). The design has taken an evolutionary step, in keeping with the previous generation 997 and 996. The designer of the 991 is Porsche's Chief Designer Michael Mauer.

The Carrera 4 and 4S models made their world debut at the 2012 Paris Auto Show, The two models have been equipped with the AWD Porsche Traction Management (PTM) system and feature 22mm wider rear wheel arches when compared to the standard 911 Carrera.

The Carrera 4S is powered by a 3.8-liter flat-six engine that delivers a total of 394 HP. The 4S coupe will hit 100 km/h in just 4.1 seconds and has a top speed of 299 km/h. All the Carrera 4 and 4S models have a 7-speed manual gearbox as standard, and the Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) gearbox is available as an option.

You should've put that effort in your 911th post into a post for a RUF or any other car from a different manufacturer other than Porsche... Image
