CRISTIAN GNATICOV wrote:The Aston Martin DB11 family is bound to gain yet another member - the Volante, which will sit alongside the Coupe with its folding soft-top.

Previewed by three images that depict it in a prototype form, with additional bodywork covering the rear wings, it carries the same lines as its fixed roof sibling, including the C-shaped taillights and the air vents on the front fenders.

There's no picture yet to show the front end of the car, but expect a similar nose, with the iconic Aston grille taking center stage, to the car unveiled earlier this year, in Geneva.

Power will continue to come from the same 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 engine, developed in-house by the company's engineers, which is capable of pushing 608 PS (600 HP) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque to the rear wheels, through an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission.

However, since the DB11 Volante will be heavier than the 1,800 kg (3,968 lbs) Coupe, as it will have to cope with the chopped-off roof, expect the 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time to take more than 3.9 seconds, and the 322 km/h (200 mph) top speed to be slightly lower.

As for the car's official reveal date, the "Opening Spring 2018" lettering on the side of this prototype is a pretty good hint that those interested in Aston's upcoming convertible will have to wait at least another year and a half to touch it.
It's not as good looking as the coupe version IMO and it looks kinda weird from the angles it's shown.

Isn't 2018 a bit too late for this car to be launched? :|

And of course, a totally out of context video that has nothing to do with what is being discussed was posted by one of the members who "share" these videos to increase their post count, right after a staff member agreed this shouldn't happen.

Not really the exact angle of the quoted picture but the Coupe does look less weird or awkward than the Volante.

But let's be fair, that's a prototype and it could change, it wasn't even shown with the top down.

But sometime the discussion will end and somebody gotta start another one with something. Why do you care so much about this? It's not like anything in your life got changed because of what you mention anyway.

Thats a serious ride she had there. I would never leave a cooler unprotected like that. A small mesh grille can prevent little rocks from piercing it.

PS Why is that Aston DB11 Cabrio not in a seperate thread?

There is gonna be a separate thread for it when the time comes, but right now it's just so far away. Image

Since Rolls Royce has been taken over by BMW, the designs go more that direction. The other way around would maybe have been better.

There is a rumor spreading that Apple might be interested in taking over McLaren. :eeek:
Source: Financial Times.

Edit: might be more than a rumor

Apple is said to have "approached" the McLaren Technology Group about a potential acquisition, according to a report in the Financial Times.

The company includes the road car concern, McLaren Automotive, and engineering specialist McLaren Applied Technologies, as well as its F1 team. Its main shareholders are Ron Dennis, Mansour Ojjeh, and Bahrain's Mumtalakat. Dennis has been actively seeking new investors in recent years.

The obvious driver for any deal would be McLaren's technological expertise, although its not clear exactly what direction Apple's road car ambitions are taking.

The Financial Times stressed that "Apple's interest in the Woking-based company centers on its technology, engineering prowess and patent portfolio, according to people briefed on the talks. However, those people cautioned that it was unclear if a deal would go ahead following a recent shift in Apple's car strategy."
