Oh how I wish games could be like their concepts.
These concept graphics are very well possible with todays graphical hardware.
Think Skyrim + Tomb Raider + TDU2 and you are almost there.
Only limitations so far were the "old" consoles. If TDU was developed with DX11 in mind it could already have some nice features like running water, better textures or more destructible objects. And even nicer weather.
Good news is that the TDU franchise is still very much alive. There are some high rollers investing in it, so maybe something good will come out of that.
In the mean time i look forward to the Ivory Tower project and before that Grid2.
PS If any of you know some TDU2 artwork pics or renders that are not here, feel free to post them

Yes, Dubai was one of the original locations considered for TDU2, but they had to cancel one and went for Ibiza. I think they were working on Dubai before Ibiza. But it was axed in an early stage of development. Maybe i can retrace the work of the former Eden dev who worked on that project and had some cool insights on his website and portfolio.
Edit: found it
Former Eden Dev Thibaut Trampont worked on Dubai, before Atari/Eden axed the project.
He was obviously not too happy with the decision to axe his work.During the preproduction of the game, i was in charge of the entire Level Design of a second island : Dubaï. The project was designed to take the hight level player from Hawaii to Dubaï.
With that in mind, we made a huge research on every element of the Dubaï environment :
Roads and marking
Buildings and monuments
Vegetation and disctricts
Topography and landscape
Street elements
I personaly made the research about Roads and marking, because i was the one to create the road network using the Worlbuilder tool wich is a internal Tool of Eden Games's Twilight engine.
Before Eden Games and Atari decided to throw it all to trash, i had build the entire network, and specificaly the Jabel Hafeet road, wich has a world renown among drivers.

Thanks Madman,
Wow there was way more concept art than I thought! I lol'd at the bathroom pic, I always wondered were all the toilets went in TDU2 Especially after having that many drinks in the Casino!

I wonder why Eden Games and Atari decided to throw it all to trash.

Try the Shack. You will have to drive from South Coast to North Coast every time after leaving the CasinoDDastardly00 wrote:Thanks Madman,

Indeed it would have been awesome. And not even considering finishing it as DLC...Kamikaze wrote:Dubai,Oahu and Ibiza what an amazing game that would be
If they had spent as much energy in developing the game as in squabbling and striking .....
In the last image you can see the fuel meter, also a feature that got axed later.
More ideas were axed, like the transformer Lambo to BuggyDuring summer 2007, I was asked to do research on the new video bumper of the game.
Dirt races were one of the new gameplay feature of TDU2, that is why we decided to show a lambo wich slowly transform into a buggy.
Unfortunately there was a massive change of direction at the head of the project, so we never had the chance to finalize the video and it wasn't used in the release version of the game.
Buggy modeling by Francois Beudin.
Lamborghini modeling by Luccas Miragoli Gianluca.
IMO a more logical project to axe, even if it could have been fun.
